HALLOWEEN MOVIE RECOS: Celebs reveal their favorite local and international horror films

<p>Whether its the usual jump scare horror or the more disturbing and gory kind of cinema, our favorite celebrities share which horror films stand out for them in more ways than one. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Janine Gutierrez</strong></div><p>“Feng Shui” (2004)</p><p>“Oh my gosh, that’s a good question because madaming scary (movies) so I’m going to go Pinoy and say <em>Feng Shui </em>because my mom was in it. And then it came out when I was 12 years old tapos sobrang iconic nung death scene niya dun. It was a really scary movie by director Chito Roño.”</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Yeng Constantino</strong></div><p>“Blair Witch Project 1” (1999)</p><p>“Hindi ako nakatulog dun ng two weeks. The less na sa movie pinapakita yung multo, yung witch, yung monster, the more na scary siya. Kasi mas scary yung na-i-imagine mo in your head. So mapapansin mo, pag pinakita na sayo yung monster, like sa <em>Blair Witch 1,</em> super saglit lang pinakita yung witch, kaya grabe yun. Kung anu-ano na ginawa ng head ko.”</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Maki</strong></div><p>“Hereditary” (2018) and “The Substance” (2024)</p><p>“I actually love scary films. So yung dalawang yun, it’s one of the most disturbing, unsettling films that I’ve ever watched.”</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Morissette</strong></div><p>“Paranormal Activity” (2007)</p><p>“I haven’t watched a horror film in so long. The last one I watched was <em>Paranormal</em> which was way,way back pa. I think it was very, very scary kasi yung treatment nila na very authentic, parang hindi staged so yun, medyo kilabot siya (laughs).</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Elijah Canlas</strong></div><p>“The Exorcist” (1973)</p><p>“Probably the OG <em>Exorcist </em>with Linda Blair. The original one. Kung gobyerno yan, hindi ako matatakot (laughs) pero kung movies, I’m not so (scared). I have my suspension of disbelief naman but I can always just enjoy the ride kapag may mga jump scare or whatever.”</p><div><br/></div><p><em></em><strong>Raymund Marasigan, </strong><em></em>Eraserheads, Sandwich, and Pedicab</p><p>“An American Werewolf in London” (1981)</p><p>“Napanuod ko nung bata ako. I think I watched it more than ten times. It was giving me nightmares for a year (laughs). iIstill love it. the director, John Landis, eventually became the director of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller.’”</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Michael Sager</strong></div><p>“Pagpag” (2013)</p><p>“That was one of my favorite horror films growing up, as a fan of Kathniel. I was a kid nun. Fun fact, I’m actually working now with the director nun, si direk Frasco (Mortiz) for my movie. It’s a horror movie called <em>Huwag Kang Titingin</em> for next year.”</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Arthur Nery</strong></div><p>“Memories of Murder” (2003)</p><p>“Hindi siya horror movie talaga, parang suspense lang siya. It’s a Korean film. Matatakutin ako. Pero minsan hindi naman (laughs).”</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Vivoree Esclito</strong></div><p>“As Above, So Below” (2014)</p><p>“Kasi parang siyang realistic. Hindi siya parang very cinematic. It’s more like, para siyang handheld lang yung camera so parang it makes you feel like you’re actually there.”</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Angela Ken</strong></div><p>“Truth or Dare” (2018)</p><p>“I’m not a fan of scary movies pero siguro ang hindi ko makalimutan na hanggang ngayon hino-haunt ako is <em>Truth or Dare</em>. Kasi nakakatakot yung bigla na lang sila nag-sa-smile. It was so scary!”</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Joao Constancia</strong></div><p>“Feng Shui” (2004)</p><p>“I remember I was traumatized by that movie nung bata pa ako. Umiyak pa ako nun. Kasi takot ako. Takot ako sa mga horror. Ngayon medyo takot na lang (laughs).”</p><div><br/></div><p><strong>Apl.de.ap</strong>, Black Eyed Peas</p><p>“I think it was a manananggal movie back in the day. I forget the title of it. Tagalog horror movies are the first that I’ve seen and we’re very superstitious so I remember having to go home from school from my cousins and I have to cross a river and I was scared of white ladies. I was scared of white ladies, manananggal, tikbalang, all that.” </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Gabby Padilla</strong></div><p>“I love horror films. I love Halloween. So I’m the type of person who loves those things. My top three horror films are<em> Hereditary, Tale of Two Sisters</em>, and <em>Haunting of Hill House</em>, which is one of my favorite series.“</p>
