EXCLUSIVE: Martin Del Rosario looks back on ‘Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin' as he stars in new action movie

<p>Martin Del Rosario has played numerous roles since he started his career in showbiz, but perhaps one of his most memorable is portraying Berto Matias in the 2011 action series <em>Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin.</em></p><p>In an exclusive interview with <strong>PUSH ABS-CBN</strong>, Martin fondly looked back on his role and shared how it helped shape his latest portrayal of Ricky Mapa in <em>Beyond the Call of Duty.</em></p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1749885972632Thumb - 2025-06-14T152624.148.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>“Siguro yung training, physical training, hindi na bago sa akin yung physical training kasi doon sa<em> Minsan lang kita Iibigin</em>,<em></em> naalala ko kami ni Coco (Martin) saka ni Andi (Eigenmann) nag-training kami doon sa Baguio. Sa pagkakaalala ko ha, matagal na matagal na yun ha, alam ko sa PMA. So hindi na bago sa akin yung physical training,” he recalled.</p><div><iframe width="1265" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cchFqGD1SKE" title="Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin Full Trailer" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>In the said Kapamilya series, Martin played Berto Matias, a Military Academy graduate and friend-turned-nemesis to Coco Martin’s Alexander.</p><p>Now, Martin is back portraying a role in service to the country, this time not as a soldier, but as a police officer.</p><p>“Dito naman, sa movie na to, yung preparation, bukod sa guidance ni direk, at saka bukod sa pagbabasa ng script, yung preparation na ginawa ko talaga dito, kinausap ko yung mga SWAT team ko dito. Tinatanong ko sila, ano ba yung sinasabi? Ano ba yung line na mas mukhang natural? Paano kayo nagre-react pag ganitong bagay,” he shared.</p><p>The actor shared how important it is for him to always portray his roles authentically.</p><p>“Kaming mga actors, ine-aim namin maging authentic yung portrayal namin. Kumbaga, di ba, yung mga SWAT, chill lang sila, kalmado sila at all times. Yung ganong atake. Kasi iba yung napo-portray minsan ng mga pulis sa TV, eh. Di ba? Bukod sa minsan negative, laging late, ganyan. Dito sa movie na ito, hindi. Mapapakita talaga kung paano ba gumalaw ang ating kapulisan. Kung gaano ka-snappy, kung gaano ka-kalmado, sa mga sitwasyong, I mean, intense,” he added.</p><div><iframe width="1265" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/B8ZKe1CrGaA" title="Official Trailer BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY  Coming Soon in Cinemas Nationwide on Sept. 3, 2025" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Martin also shared how proud he is to take on a different role after playing kontrabida characters in his previous projects.</p><p>“Siyempre proud ako na nagkaroon ako ng ganitong role kasi madalas nga sa mga teleserye ko, lagi akong kontrabida. So it&#x27;s my first time na ako naman yung hero. Ako naman yung bida. And of course, itong movie na kasi ito, pinapakita niya yung sakripisyo na pinagdadaanan ng mga ating kapulisan. Yung sakripisyo para ma-maintain ang kapayapaan sa ating bansa. So, it&#x27;s an honor na maging parte ng ganitong klaseng pelikula. And of course, with the help of PNP mismo, and siyempre Pinoyflix, naging posible ang mabuo namin itong film na ito,” Martin shared.</p><p>The actor added that he has gained a deeper respect for the police because of his character’s journey in the movie.</p><p>“Noon, mataas na nga yung tingin ko, yung respeto ko sa mga pulis. Pero siguro after nitong movie na ito, lalo na pinagdaanan ko yung journey ni Lieutenant Ricky Mapa, masasabi ko lang na mas mataas yung respeto ko ngayon sa ating pulis. Maraming maraming salamat sa ating mga pulis,”</p><p><em>Beyond the Call of Duty</em> is set to hit cinemas on September 3.</p>
