Jude Cartalaba</div>MANILA — The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) on Thursday unveiled its ISAPELIKULA: The FDCP Film Fund and Labs during its Philippine Film Industry Month Gala, which honored women who have made significant contributions to cinema, including Lee Briones-Meily, Raquel Villavicencio, Gina Alajar, Olivia Lamasan, and Malou Santos.FDCP chairperson and CEO Jose Javier Reyes said the new project is aimed at supporting emerging Filipino filmmakers through incubation and match-funding.The initiative provides mentorship, financial backing, and networking opportunities to help bring unique and culturally significant film projects to life.Just like in Hollywood, it is a venue to find opportunities through pitch sites, film festivals, or contests like The Black List and Coverfly; develop a concise, well-documented pitch deck, including a synopsis and business potential; and more. During the Incubation phase, the selected projects and training for the selected filmmakers are developed through a series of online mentorships and two residential intensive workshops on script development and pitching.FDCP aims to develop the new works of the participants by putting them under intensive guidance from seasoned filmmakers and screenwriters. It seeks to transform the sequence treatment or draft script into film-ready screenplays, and be confident to pitch their projects to producers and financiers.In the match-funding stage, the Council will match the investment or funding secured by the finalist from a producer, up to a maximum of P10 million.Its objectives are as follows: to identify and develop feature film projects that are distinctly Filipino but with global appeal; provide government support for Filipino filmmakers to create original works that are not limited to the local market but bear a strong chance for regional and international distribution; allocate seed funding for the selected projects through the fund-matching program; and lastly, offer comprehensive support at every stage of the project, from script development, production, to post-production and distribution, through the relevant FDCP programs. The selected projects will go through a three-stage program designed to strengthen Filipino filmmaking. The process includes workshops on script development and pitching, participation in a project market and production cycle, and preparation for distribution.Applicants must be Filipino citizens of legal age and registered with the FDCP National Registry for Audiovisual Workers. They must have written or co-written at least one feature-length film and hold or share the intellectual property rights of the proposed project. All applicants must have full rights to develop, produce, and distribute the project, have no pending obligations from prior FDCP assistance, and must not be receiving support from another FDCP program.The program is open to feature-length film projects in fiction, non-fiction, documentary, or animation. Entries may be in English or any Filipino language or dialect, provided they include English translation or subtitles.
