'EDJOP,' film about Martial Law activist, opens in cinemas Sept. 16

Pictures Philippines, according to a press release.&quot;EDJOP&quot; chronicles the life of Filipino student leader and Martial Law activist Edgar &quot;Edjop&quot; Jopson, portrayed by Elijah Canlas.Jodi Sta. Maria also stars in the film as Edjop&#x27;s eldest daughter, Joyette Jopson.The film took five years to complete and was financed solely by private investors and donors, without studio backing or institutional support, before securing a distribution deal with Warner Bros.&quot;Both the film and how it was made, is about what it costs to believe in something,&quot; said director Katski Flores, who co-wrote the feature with Jade Castro.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/spotlight/09/20/22/misinformation-shrouds-martial-law-era-horrors">READ: Misinformation shrouds Philippine martial law era horrors </a></div>&quot;Getting Edjop&#x27;s story onto screens nationwide, at this scale, has been five years of fighting for exactly this moment. We&#x27;re excited to be partnering with them on this project,&quot; Flores added.Joyette Jopson, who serves as co-executive producer, said she believed the film would resonate with the new generation.&quot;We want this film to be seen by everyone, especially students and young people,&quot; she said.The film also stars Kakie Pangilinan and Cedrick Juan, alongside theater luminaries Menchu Lauchenco-Yulo and Teroy Guzman.
