<p>MANILA — Veteran actress Ruby Ruiz headlines the upcoming Cinemalaya 2026 film &quot;Status: Rejected,&quot; whose official trailer debuted on social media this week.</p><p>The film, billed as a second coming-of-age story, is among the entries in this year&#x27;s Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival under the theme &quot;Reel Reflections.&quot;</p><p>Ruiz shared the film&#x27;s trailer on social media.</p><p>&quot;Status: Rejected&quot; follows the story of Biring, a 69-year-old grandmother who has spent years &quot;dreaming of going to America to reunite with her favorite son. Believing that America is her only escape from the loneliness she feels at home, she continues to face rejection after rejection from the U.S. Embassy.
