‘Ganito, Ganyan, Ganoon’ trailer offers glimpse into film’s exploration of family wounds and healing

<p>Netflix Philippines has released the official trailer for its upcoming film<em> Ganito, Ganyan, Ganoon.</em></p><p>The film follows “high-achieving TV writer Joanne (Jodi Sta. Maria), [who] learns that her estranged mother Paz (Agot Isidro) has come home,” according to its official synopsis.</p><p>“She [becomes] torn between the daughter she’s supposed to be and the years of her mother’s absence she can’t forgive. Can their reunion heal a family this broken, or will old wounds cut too deep to touch?” the synopsis added.</p><p>The trailer shows Joanne initially struggling to adjust to Paz’s arrival at their island home. Midway through the trailer, Paz is asked why she returned and reveals that she has cancer.</p><p>As the trailer progresses, Joanne and Paz begin spending more time together on the island, while Paz struggles to come to terms with her remaining days.</p><p>“I am putting my dream on hold because I want to be here for you,” Joanne tells Paz, as the trailer also reveals that Joanne has been accepted into a screenwriting fellowship in Brooklyn.</p><div><iframe width="913" height="543" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ueGNj0fC8rU" title="Ganito, Ganyan, Ganoon | Official Trailer | Netflix Philippines" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Fans online were quick to react to the trailer.</p><p>&quot;Ganda ng mga palabas na may ganitong mapupulot na aral lalo pa for family,&quot; one fan commented.</p><p>&quot;Wow! Super malaman ng movie! Ang sarap panoorin,&quot; another fan wrote.</p><p>In a press conference organized by Netflix in February, Jodi opened up about the experiences that shaped her character, noting that Joanne’s resilience and independence stemmed from growing up without proper guidance.</p><p>“I think we all carry some sort of family wounds. When I was studying her character, what motivated this character to be the way she is? She had to be strong and independent because she didn’t have anyone to guide her growing up. We all have a person like that in our family or friend circle. I didn’t have to look far enough because I could relate to Paz through my own mom,” she revealed.</p><p>According to Agot, portraying Paz also gave her a better understanding of her own mother and the complexities behind people’s behavior.</p><p>“There’s a similarity not exactly the same, but there’s a certain similarity with her, so I had a deeper understanding of my mom when I was playing Paz. I saw her frustrations, her insecurities, and I realized those were her defense mechanisms. She’s not a bad character, she’s just very complicated,&quot; she said. </p><p>Directed by Cholo Laurel, <em>Ganito, Ganyan, Ganoon</em> will premiere on Netflix on August 13.</p>
