<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1785128869428image0 (1).jpeg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/>Handout</div>MANILA — Following its box-office success in some parts of Asia, the Chinese indie film &quot;Dear You&quot; will make its Philippine cinema debut on August 12.“Dear You” takes its language and setting from Chaoshan, a region of eastern Guangdong province centered on the cities of Shantou, Chaozhou, and Jieyang, whose Teochew-speaking communities sent scores of migrants to Southeast Asia in the 19th and 20th centuries.Directed by Lan Hongchun, the plot revolves around a debt-ridden grandson who travels to Thailand in search of his &quot;millionaire&quot; grandfather, who fled during the war and never returned — only to discover that the man is long dead and that the letters his grandmother received for decades were written by a stranger.According to reports, Hongchun spent three years researching this film, interviewing nearly 300 overseas Chinese families from Southeast Asia, the Americas, and Europe.The movie stars Li Sitong, Wang Yantong, Wu Shaoqing, Zheng Runqi and Wang Xiaohui, with Thai actor Usha Seamkhum also appearing.In China, the film has since accumulated a local box office of more than RMB1.5 billion, placing it second on the 2026 annual chart after &quot;Pegasus 3.&quot; Its 9.2 rating on review platform Douban, based on more than 700,000 user ratings, represents one of the highest marks for a local Chinese release in over 10 years.Pioneer Films, a Philippine film distribution company founded by Wilson Yuloque in 1990, will release &quot;Dear You&quot; in Philippine cinemas on August 12.
