‘Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory’ animated film to be released in 2027

<p>Willy Wonka is returning to the big screen, but this time, he is stepping into the world of animation. </p><p>Tudum by Netflix announced on August 12 that <em>Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory,</em> a new animated adventure set in Roald Dahl’s beloved universe, will hit theaters worldwide on November 5, 2027, before becoming available on Netflix on December 22, 2027.</p><p>Directed by Jared Stern and Elaine Bogan, the upcoming animated movie promises to put a fresh spin on the iconic chocolate-filled world, complete with original songs, new characters, and familiar faces. </p><p>Adding another exciting twist is Academy Award winner Taika Waititi, who will lend his voice to Willy Wonka while also serving as an executive producer. Academy Award winner Aron Warner and Timothy Yoo are producing the film. </p><p>Sony Pictures Entertainment will oversee the film’s international theatrical distribution.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17867562675111786756436852.png" style="width:660px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>According to Netflix, the animated film centers on Willy Wonka who has spent years behind bars after being punished for turning a child into a blueberry. Once he completes his sentence, the eccentric chocolatier returns to his factory hoping to bring some sweetness back into a world that has become increasingly bitter. </p><p>However, a new group of children soon stands in his way. </p><p>At the center of the story is a new character, Charlie Paley (Kit Connor), and his friends, who are facing eviction from their homes. Desperate to save their families, the children come up with a risky plan: break into Wonka’s factory, steal a valuable Wonka Bar, and hopefully solve their problems. </p><p>The group soon discovers that the fantastical factory is every bit as unpredictable as the children who explored it before them. </p><p>Directors Jared and Elaine described the project as an opportunity to revisit a world they grew up loving while using animation to take the story into an entirely new direction. </p><p>“Having been raised on the delightfully twisted world of Willy Wonka, it’s a privilege to bring his continued adventures to life as twisted adults,” they said. “And how sweet to do it like never before via the magic of animation, creating a Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory that’s more deliciously unhinged than your wildest imagination. You’re in for a treat!” </p><p>Joining Taika and Kit in the voice cast are Nicola Coughlan, Charithra Chandran, Samson Kayo, Christopher Chung, Kate Winslet, and Helena Bonham Carter.</p>
