Aegis to stage Valentine concert for the first time without Mercy Sunot

<p>OPM rock band Aegis is set to hold a Valentine’s concert this February 1 and 2 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City. This concert marks the first time that the legendary band will perform without one of their vocalists, Mercy Sunot, who passed away back in 2024.</p><div><br/></div><p>Titled <em>Halik sa Ulan: A Valentine Special</em>, the concert promises to be a celebration of timeless music and heartfelt performances coming from the band.</p><div><br/></div><p>When asked how it’s been like for the band after the passing of Mercy, her sister Juliet Sunot admitted that it’s been difficult as they were already used to her presence and being a band with seven members.</p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/music/2025/1/9/aegis-to-hold-valentine-concert-halik-sa-ulan-in-honor-of-late-member-2017" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>READ: Aegis to hold Valentine concert &#x27;Halik sa Ulan&#x27; in honor of late member</strong></a></div><div><br/></div><p>“Parang talagang mahirap po samin kasi sanay na kami mag kasama kaming pito. Ngayon naging anim. Before po talaga, malungkot talaga kasi may sakit si Mercy hindi pa po alam ng lahat na nadun siya sa US nag papagaling… Hirap po kami talaga lalo na sa amin kasi kapatid po namin [siya]. Iiyak po talaga kami pero pinipilit po namin,” she shared.</p><div><br/></div><p>Juliet added that during the time when they found out her sister had passed away, she lost her voice to sing but got help from the audience who sang along with them during their performance.</p><div><br/></div><p>“Then nung nalaman po namin na wala po talaga siya, halos hindi na po kami nakakanta kasi talagang yung mga tao nalang yung kumakanta… Hindi po namin maalis yung lungkot talaga,” she recalled.</p><div><br/></div><p>Despite this, Juliet assured that they will be performing at their best–– all heart and soul–– for their departed sister. Bago siya operahan sabi niya ‘gusto ko na umuwi ‘te’ Gusto niyang sumama sa concert na to pero wala eh. Talagang umalis na siya sa amin kaya kailangan namin ipagpatuloy to. Andito pa rin kami kasi yun yung gusto ni Mercy kahit ugod-ugod na kami. Siya nag sabi sa grupo na wala pong iwanan,” she said. </p><div><br/></div><p>Meanwhile, director Frank Lloyd Mamaril shared that he is ready to back up in case the band gets too emotional while performing on stage. He assured the fans of the OPM band that this Valentine’s concert will be more special because of the amount of emotions each member put into it. </p><div><br/></div><p>“Yung repertoire po siyempre pinagiisipan po namin yun. Iniisip ko rin as a director na baka dito umiyak sila so kailangan handa ako na may pang salo. So talagang pinagiisipan talaga. Coming from a 2018 sold out concert at the Araneta, itong concert nila ngayon medyo yung puso nila ramdam ko. As a director, kailangan matranslate ko yun into something meaningful for the audience also,” he said. </p><div><br/></div><p>Aegis–– composed of Juliet and Ken Sunot, Stella Pabico, Vilma Goloviongo, Weng Adriano, and Rey Abenoja–– will be performing iconic anthems such as &quot;Basang-Basa sa Ulan,&quot; &quot;Luha,&quot; &quot;Sayang na Sayang,&quot; and many more, bringing nostalgia and passion to the forefront of this special concert. </p>
