Singer-songwriter MRLD talks about new album ‘7th sense’: ‘These are feelings na hindi ko kayang sabihin’

<p>Young Filipino singer-songwriter MRLD gave a glimpse of her stories and emotions through her debut album, <em>7th Sense.</em></p><p>During her album’s media conference, MRLD shared the creative process and inspiration behind her first album.</p><p>“When I wrote<em> 7th sense</em>, parang mayroon sa utak ko nagpupush to release this album,” MRLD expressed. “Itong album na ito, these are feelings na hindi ko kayang sabihin in direct words. This is my <em>7th sense</em>… These are mga situations na pinagdaanan ko sa aking buhay.”</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1741420092209Thumb (57).jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>Initially, she had planned to release a full-length English album but later changed her approach.</p><p>“Before I made <em>7th sense</em>, I was planning to first release a full English album pero looking at the album parang wala pa siyang sparks for me.,” she admitted.</p><p>However, she felt that <em>7th Sense</em> was a better way to introduce herself to listeners.</p><p>“I wrote some of the songs 2 years ago and ngayon lang talaga bumalik sa akin yung mga songs na iyon na parang bumalik ulit,” MRLD said.</p><p>Recalling the album’s production, she carefully selected each track to showcase her versatility as a singer-songwriter.</p><p>“Noong nagfinalize ako ng tracklist, hindi ko alam kung ano iyong mararamdaman ko kasi sobrang halo-halo iyong genre,” she said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/movies-series/2025/2/25/singer-songwriter-mrld-gears-up-for-solo-concert-to-drop-debut-album-1244" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u>READ: Singer-songwriter mrld gears up for solo concert, to drop debut album</u></strong></a></div><p>She further explained, “I want this album to open up sa utak ng mga tao na I can able to i-carry yung mga genre na ito kasi sa &#x27;Sandali&#x27; no one thought of me I would sing &#x27;Sandali&#x27;. Parang sa album din ibang genre din sila like &#x27;M.I.N.O.Y.&#x27; is indie pop which I produced with Niko of Nameless Kids which was a good experience for me.”</p><p>Reflecting on the process, she described it as both fun and challenging.</p><p>“It was very fun. The production sobrang saya. Ito yung pinakamahabang kanta na na-i-sulat ko,” she said. “It’s six minutes kasi sobrang raw lang din ng emotions nito. I wrote this 2 years ago. Sobrang sakit ng kanta na actually ako iniyakan ko, my parents and actually my friends din.”</p><p>She also revealed that the song was recorded in just one take.</p><p>“‘Malaya’ was supposed to be the carrier single but then noong pinakinggan namin, nagdecide kami na ito dapat yung lead single. From scratch kami. Ito yung pinaka-raw,”  she expressed. </p><p>“Isang take kami nito and sa production, isang take din. Wala kaming nirevise. Kung ano iyong narecord namin, we made it work. May kid love lang. May nagustuhan na tao. Ang nangyari kasi noon, I gave the person two chances but little did I know na pinagsabay kami and hindi ako yung napili. It was nothing serious pero malaki yung impact sa akin,” MRLD stated.</p><p>MRLD, whose real name is Meriel de Jesus, is a singer-songwriter from Cebu who debuted in 2019. She is known for her hit songs  “An Art Gallery Could Never Be As Unique As You,” “Ligaya,” “Sandali,” and “Ikaw Pa Rin.”</p><p>Writing songs based on her experiences, MRLD expressed how music has been her way of healing.</p><p>“Naging coping ko is to write the song so when I get older palalim din ng palalim yung meaning ng song. The song is childish pero that’s how I felt,” she explained. “It’s a way na lang for me na magsabi. Di ko pa kaya all out words kaya all my thoughts dinala ko na sa songs.”</p>
