It’s a new chapter for Philippines' Pop Rock Superstar Yeng Constantino as she unveils her first self-produced original single, “Lumulutang Nahuhulog.”

Marking a significant milestone in her career as an independent music artist, Yeng opened up about the story behind the track during an intimate pocket media conference. According to the singer-songwriter, the song had been completed years ago, but she held off on its release, feeling the timing wasn't quite right.

“Actually, ang tagal na nito narecord. Parang after pandemic pa, mga 2022 or early 2023 pa. Matagal na ‘tong narecord,” Yeng said. “We recorded this song way back in 2023.”

Yeng admitted that although the song was already finished at the time, she felt hesitant and decided to set it aside.

“At that time na nirecord ko siya parang iniisip ko when you do something sobrang fun at that time, parang biglang after mo gawin (mapapa-isip ka), 'Gusto ko ba ’tong i-release?' May ganong feeling. So parang nalipasan siya ng time. Pero andoon na siy. Buo na. Lumipas lang,” she explained.

After some time had passed, Yeng revisited the track and felt the urge to share it with her fans, finally deciding to release it as her first independently produced song.

“Ito yung first-ever song, I guess, na nirelease ko independently,” Yeng happily said,

Despite releasing music independently after years of working under a record label, Yeng said she does not see this step as a risk but rather as a natural progression in her artistic journey.

“I really longed for growth,” Yeng shared. “I decided to why not try to do something independently? Parang last night, nagkaroon ako ng guesting sa WISH Bus. Sabi ni DJ Adam, 'Alam mo, nafi-feel mo ba yung risk and all?' Hindi siya ganun sa akin I look at releasing something independently (something).

“Siguro hindi ko siya inisip that way na parang, 'Sobrang scary nito.' As much as possible, you are going to release a fun song, ‘di ba? Dapat nage-enjoy ka rin,” she added.

According to the press release, “Lumulutang Nahuhulog” (which translates to “Floating Falling” in English) explores the emotional contradiction of being swept away by infatuation while fearing the possibility of falling for someone who might not reciprocate. It captures the tension of wanting to fall in love, yet hesitating at the same time.

Yeng revealed that the song was partly inspired by “cute” TikTok videos she encountered during the early days of using the platform.

“When I wrote this, after pandemic, so parang kakaregister ko lang noon sa TikTok. Tapos ang algorithm ko hindi pa perfect,” Yeng said. “Ang mga lumalabas sa akin ay yung sumasayaw, mga girls, mga (videos) na sobrang cute. Sabi ko, “Parang gusto ko sumulat ng ganung klaseng mga kanta, yung cute.”

She also credited her husband, Yan Asuncion, for contributing to the songwriting process.

“So sabi ko (kay Yan), 'Love, can you help me with the song I’m writing right now?' Tapos siya yung nag-suggest sa akin na, 'Kung susulatin mo ‘to, i-describe mo yung love with parang naghihilahan na words,'” she added.

Yeng added that parts of the song were also drawn from their own love story, reflecting on how their relationship blossomed through the years.

“Lumulutang Nahuhulog” is currently available on all major music streaming platforms worldwide.

With the release, Yeng also shared her cute takes and “hugots” with her own TikTok entries to her new song.
