Mayday Parade wraps up ‘Three Cheers for 20 Years’ tour in Manila

<p>American emo and rock band Mayday Parade gave Manila fans a night to remember as they closed the final leg of their Three Cheers for 20 Years world tour at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.</p><p> The Manila stop not only celebrated two decades of music but also highlighted the band’s deep connection with their Filipino fanbase, whom they first met during their visit in 2011.</p><p> From the opening chords of “By The Way” and “Just Say You’re Not Into It” to the crowd sing-alongs of “Three Cheers for Five Years,” “Jersey,” and “I’d Hate to Be You When People Find Out What This Song Is About,” the energy inside the coliseum was electric.</p><div> </div><div><strong></strong></div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1758852448709Mayday Parade.png" style="width:600px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div><strong></strong></div><div> </div><p>Frontman Derek Sanders set the tone early in the night as he recalled the band’s humble beginnings and the support from their Filipino fans.</p><p> “Manila! Oh my god! It’s so good to be here celebrating 20 years of Mayday Parade with all these good people. Back in 2005, I was 19 years old when we started this band basically in a garage and I never could have imagined that we&#x27;d still be here doing it all this time together and let alone the biggest headline shows of our career,” Derek expressed. </p><p> “So, we appreciate you coming out, Thanks for being here with us tonight. I hope you guys like the slow sad emo songs,” he added as they opened the second set of their classic hits.</p><div> </div><div><strong></strong><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=476&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fweb.facebook.com%2Freel%2F742119265530584%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=267&amp;t=0" width="267" height="476" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><strong></strong></div><div><strong> </strong></div><p>The nostalgia continued with emotional staples “Miserable at Best,” “Anywhere But Here,” “Bruised and Scarred,” “Terrible Things,” and “Oh Well, Oh Well.” At one point, the band dedicated “Stay” to the Filipino crowd, calling them the loudest fans to sing it back.</p><p> “This next song in particular, I’ve been looking forward to playing in Manila because I don’t think anyone in the whole world will sing this loud as you guys do so this one is for you guys and it’s called ‘Stay,’” Derek expressed.</p><p> The setlist stretched across their 20-year discography, featuring “Ghosts,” “One of Them Will Destroy the Other,” “Sunnyland,” and a heartfelt performance of “Piece of Your Heart,” which Derek introduced with a message of kindness and unity.</p><div> </div><div><strong></strong><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1758852506750Mayday Parade 2.png" style="width:600px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/> <strong></strong></div><div> </div><p>“I’m gonna say that it feels like things just gonna continue to get crazier and crazier in the world right now and it makes me truly appreciate having this. This to be the place we can put all the bad sh*ts set aside a little bit just to enjoy music and friendship and good people coming together,” Derel stated.</p><p> He went on: “It’s really important to have that. It’s really important to say it here right now. Listen, we love and support all of you regardless of your religion, your race, your gender, your sexual preferences or your political ideology. We love all of you!”</p><p> Promoting kindness, he emphasized, “We should all try to be a little less angry with each other and just treat each other with kindness and empathy and compassion even if we don’t understand each other. Let&#x27;s all be kind to each other. Just like that we made the 20 years of Mayday Parade. Manila, thank you very much and we love you all!”</p><p> The band capped the emotional evening with a rare performance of “One Man Drinking Game” before closing with their iconic anthem “Jamie All Over.”  </p><p>“It’s an absolute pleasure to be here in the evening. We are gonna go lay back to the beginning once again to play this old song. We don&#x27;t play this song very often. Thanks for supporting our music and rock and roll. Let’s sing together and sing it out and loud. Thank you so much! It’s raining here so please be safe.
