Although the four-man band The Bloomfields released a single, “Balik,” last November 2025, they never imagined their 2006 hit, “Ale (Nasa Langit na Ba Ako),” will have a resurgence and put them back in the music firmament. “Everything happened organically,” Bloomfields drummer Rocky Collado told ABS-CBN News. “It has been a magical journey. The magic is still here.”The viral success of “Ale,” which has 4 million views to date on Tiktok, was courtesy of a fit-check video by 20-year-old creator @elizabelle (Eliza Salcedo). It sparked a dance trend that quickly gained momentum. Today, even celebrities are dancing to the song, which had countless posts on Facebook.Salcedo was not even born yet when “Ale” became popular on the airlanes. But when she first heard the song, she became hooked. “I just heard it on the bus on my way home from school,” Salcedo shared. “That was how I found out about it.”“Ale” was written and composed by singer-songwriter Bodjie Dasig, who first recorded the song himself back in 1989. “You’ll be hard-pressed to find Bodjie’s version,” said Collado.Then in 1992, Dasig gave the song to Richard Reynoso, who collaborated with Dasig to record his own version. The upbeat tune was used as the theme of the 1988 Regine Velasquez-Janno Gibbs film, “Honey, Nasa Langit na Ba Ako?”.In 2007, The Bloomfields recorded their own version of “Ale,” which debuted on Billboard Philippines Hot 100 List charts last January 2026, or nearly two decades after.“We gave ‘Ale’ our own pizzazz, vocal harmony even the way we played instruments, that was inspired by &#x27;60s music. ‘Yun ang kumpas namin. It was successful. People seemed to like ‘Ale’ in 2007. But they seemed to like it more now. Especially now, 20 years after.”<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1770259865527IMG_2943.jpeg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib fr-dragging" alt="The Bloomfields"/>The Bloomfields</div>The Bloomfields’ Collado is also the band’s chief songwriter. Louie Poco plays bass, Lakan Hila is lead guitarist, Nathan Abella is rhythm guitarist. They first got together back in high school at La Salle Greenhills.“It’s so creepy to see kids who were barely walking at that time when we released the song and now, they are dancing to it,” said Collado. “It’s fun. It tells us something that this song is not just something that was good in one space and time. “The song is actually viable for another generation. There was something fundamentally good about that sound that people want to hear. To me, that says a lot.”“Ale” gave hope to The Bloomfields, who have been in the music business for two decades. “To see the work and just keep on pushing yourself,” said Poco. “We don’t have to be the newest band. We can still be relevant.”Poco said a lot of local bands thought The Bloomfields is the most “underrated” band in the local music scene. “We were known for that,” Poco said. “Our fans, especially, they are so very happy for that. Lahat sila, wow, ‘deserved.’ We are really grateful for that.”Collado admitted they cannot tell why “Ale” resonates with people more than four decades after it was written by Dasig. “I have a theory,” he said. “This song vibes better with this generation. The mood fits this generation more. I think there’s something fundamentally good that multiple generations get to enjoy. We are just happy.”Added Poco, “Just like fashion, style, it goes on rotation. Ibang vibe, like the &#x27;60s or &#x27;80s vibe having a resurgence. Nowadays with AI (artificial intelligence), everything is so futuristic. You want to have something more real and genuine.“At first, we thought it was just a brief social media moment one of those random blips that come and go,” Poco explained. &quot;But by January, it had clearly taken on a life of its own, especially when it evolved into a full-blown dance challenge.“Moments like this keep us hopeful that we can reach even bigger Filipino audiences, not just locally but potentially around the world. More than anything, it motivates us to keep creating original music and to re-introduce classic OPM songs that deserve to be rediscovered by a younger generations.”<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1770263325606IMG_2945.jpeg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960" alt="The Bloomfields"/>The Bloomfields</div>The resurgence, however, didn’t happen all at once. “It was an everyday thing,” Collado shared. “Somebody said we were trending on TikTok in mid-December. Soon, my cousin texted. Then my classmate, nieces and nephews. It became more and more real until I had to download TikTok.“When they told us that even celebrities were dancing to ‘Ale,’ I asked, “Is this really happening?’ We felt great. I was happy that we have achieved what we had achieved. It’s never just one thing. I was happy that we have a great brand while we were young and we still do it up to now. When ‘Ale’ became a hit [again], that changed my world.”Hila was surprised. “Impossible na umabot sa Gen Z ang kanta namin,” he initially thought. “Parang slow burn nga sa akin. Hindi ko akalain na ganu’n na kalaki ‘yung reach ng song.”Abella, meanwhile, said everything hasn’t sink in for him yet. “It’s still like a dream for me,” he said. “They need to wake me up.”Poco feels he has to seize the moment. “Right now I’m just grateful and very happy. I guess it sort of affirmed that we’re still around. Hindi nawala ang Bloomfields. We’ve just been there doing gigs, small events, singing in weddings, birthdays, festivals, stuff like that.“Then we put the performances online. We keep on writing songs even if not everyone gets to hear our songs. We just kept going, doing our best. We realized that hard work pays off. We remain a working band.“We were just happy doing what we do. Even if we had gigs, big or small, we’re just happy that we get to make people happy. With this thing that happened to ‘Ale,’ we just want to give back to the universe, push this some more and do our best. We want to give back to the audience. We just want to create more music, continue that we do and keep on going.”Following the viral success of “Ale,” The Bloomfields are also looking forward to releasing new music, both original and covers of OPM classics. They&#x27;re also set to release this year a new album of originals that they&#x27;ve been working on for nearly three years now.“We also want to do covers,” said Collado. “We have a song, [Randy Santiago’s] ‘Babaero’ around 2011. We also released an all-Beatles album in 2015. If you check on YouTube, we did covers of so many songs of OPM legends. We have a catalogue of our repertoire. We recorded songs in the &#x27;60s, basically our version.”In the coming months, The Bloomfields expressed their desire to collaborate with other artists. “We are open. We’re going to think about that,” Collado said. “We did an informal discussion in Vibe with Richard Reynoso to do ‘something.’ We never met him in the past. He’s a great guy.“He said he’s open to go into collaboration. Whatever that is, we are still thinking about that. Nothing concrete. Nothing solid. Richard is very happy that ‘Ale’ is back in the limelight, but saddened by the fact that Bodjie can no longer see that ‘Ale’ is a hit again now.”“We also talked with Ogie Alcasid, who invited us to come by his house,” said Poco. “We’ll see where it goes.”“[The girl group] <a href="https://bini.abs-cbn.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">BINI</a>, if they are willing, we are interested to collaborate with them,” disclosed Collado. “Maybe one day we can collaborate with them. That can be the collaboration of the year.”The amazing trajectory that “Ale” has taken proves the song is timeless.“I don’t want ‘Ale’ to be just a trend,” said Collado. “That’s what I hope for. That’s the goal. I don’t want ‘Ale’ to be just a trend. We want something that has an intrinsic value regardless of generation. Stuff like VST and Company or The Beatles have accomplished through the years.“All those classic artists, they’ve given us something. They’ve struck gold and found something that is innately beautiful.
