<div style="text-align:justify">Can the iWant TV songwriting competition dedicated to BINI yield The Nation&#x27;s Girl Group&#x27;s biggest hit songs in a long while? </div><div style="text-align:justify"> </div>BACKGROUNDER. The nation’s girl group BINI celebrates its fifth year as a P-pop phenomenon reaching global audiences through sold-out shows, international milestones, and a growing worldwide fanbase in BINIVerse and Chorus, a new 10-episode reality series premiering for free on iWant and the iWant YouTube channel EVERY Thursday and Friday, 7pm (PHT).Episodes 7 and 8 will be premiered this week.<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>The first-of-its-kind reality competition gives Blooms the chance to write a song that could potentially become BINI’s next single, while also offering viewers a glimpse into the girls’ creative process as they listen to, evaluate, and select songs throughout the competition.<div><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WXnTJuRBd2Y?si=_62Dvr7kZxO-qpYd" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div style="text-align:justify"> </div>The series comes following BINI’s recent success at Coachella and ahead of the group’s fifth anniversary on June 11 (Thursday). More than a songwriting competition, BINIVerse and Chorus also serves as a celebration of BINI’s music and the strong connection they have built with Blooms through the years.<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>In the show, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena review more than 300 demo entries submitted by Blooms featuring only a verse and chorus. The members will eventually narrow the entries down to a Top 12 before selecting the Top 8 songs that will be opened for public voting. <div style="text-align:justify"> </div><div style="text-align:justify">REVIEW.</div><div><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9yr1914BZBg?si=-tyT0Pbk9Y6Fk09-" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div style="text-align:justify"> </div>I have been enjoying this series much, much more than I expected. So far with the very small sample size of very rough demos, there have been some very promising songs. While it&#x27;s not a sure thing that any of these songs could recapture the peak BINI-era hits such as &quot;Karera&quot;, &quot;Lagi&quot;, &quot;Salamin Salamin&quot; or &quot;Pantropiko&quot;, I won&#x27;t be surprised either if it does happen. There&#x27;s something that can be said of these songs that were lovingly and passionately made by true Blooms. Are the girls really just picking one song to record? Wish they would do at least an EP of about six of these.<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>Out of the Top 12 songs shortlisted on Episode 5, &quot;Cry to Your Mother&quot; by Paris Phoebe ended as the #3 seed in my book. The song is very vibrant and cutesy, like something Sabrina Carpenter or Carly Rae Jepsen would sing. It&#x27;s a feisty blow-off to a furstrating person of interest. The singing flow has that whimsical feel to it similar to &quot;Lowkey&quot; by NIKI that&#x27;s further aided by the effortlessly well-written Taglish lyrics. Side note: Maybe instead of &quot;Nakaka-haggard kang i-deal...&quot;, it should be &quot;Nakaka-haggard kang KA-deal...&quot;, rolls off the tongue much better. <div style="text-align:justify"> </div>Pancho Maniquis&#x27; &quot;Balang Araw&quot; was originally seeded #7 in my personal bracket. As one of the girls&#x27; pointed out, it sounds like a cross between MAKI and &quot;Karera&quot;. The full version that ended up in Episode 6 was an incredible makeover. Too bad it&#x27;s grouped in what seems to be the bracket of death in this scenario versus two very formnidable entries. <div style="text-align:justify"></div><div> </div>Tal Robles&#x27; &quot;Ano Na?&quot; was originally #2 in my personal bracket. The pronounciation of &quot;Aminin&quot; on the first verse needs to be corrected, but other than that, this an impeccable pop-R&amp;B song, especially the &quot;Sagot!&quot; counterpoint in the chorus. The guitar solo on the dance break is hella tasty. <div style="text-align:justify"> </div>&quot;Hilom&quot; by Noreen Gamban entered at #5 on my initial bracket. The Visayan song is a very haunting ballad that lends to layers of vocalization. No wonder BINI Colet is determined to do a solo version of this one if this doesn&#x27;t make the cut.  <div style="text-align:justify"> </div>&quot;Out of Sight&quot; by UST Music students Catherina Santos, Danika Babasa, and Darylle Farin was initially #11 in my preliminary bracket. The good news: it sounds like aa song that won&#x27;t be lost on a Bruno Mars album. The bad news: it sounds like a Bruno Mars b-side. The song is a good funk-soul romp, but lacks a certain &quot;oomph!&quot; or stank. As is, maybe it&#x27;s still too Las Vegas-y. If a capable arranger can put some well-placed dirt and grit on this one, this could sound like something that a Yosha or a KZ Tandingan or a Lola Amour or a Khimo Gumatay can record. <div style="text-align:justify"> </div><div style="text-align:justify"></div>&quot;No Tomorrow&quot; by Louis Vint, Audrey Milan and Marc Angelo Mallari  was originally #9 out of the Top 12 in my book. Curiously, while the other songwriters generally tried to capture peak BINI era, this one zagged while everybody was zigging by capturing the essence of modern global BINI FLAMES and Signals era with its brand of pop music with mild clubby and R&amp;B elements. This has room for a collab with a rapper. The lyrical strategy of both repeating words in the verses and the &quot;de na na&#x27;s&quot; in the chorus also added to the song&#x27;s catchiness.
