<p>At just 8 years old, Jilean Shain Ocmeja Taghap, affectionately known as &quot;Shin Shin,&quot; is proving that extraordinary talent knows no age. Hailing from Alejawan, Jagna, Bohol, the young singer and multi-instrumentalist is capturing hearts across the country and beyond with her exceptional vocal ability, remarkable musical intelligence, and inspiring journey.</p><p>Often described as &quot;small but terrible,&quot; Taghap possesses a powerful voice, an impressive vocal range, and an emotional depth that leave audiences in awe, earning standing ovations and widespread admiration wherever she performs.</p><p>Taghap demonstrated her love for music at a remarkably early age. At just two years old, she could sing Disney&#x27;s “Let It Go,” showcasing a sense of melody and rhythm even before fully articulating the lyrics. By the time she turned three, she astonished her family by playing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” on a piano app independently.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1783899429239image0 (4).jpeg" style="width:633px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>Today, that natural ability has blossomed into extraordinary musicianship. In addition to singing, the Bohol pride is a skilled pianist and violinist and has the rare ability to learn songs by simply listening to them a few times — accurately identifying melodies and playing them without sheet music.</p><p>Recognizing her potential, her parents enrolled her at Jabez Music Centre, where she received formal training in voice, piano, and violin.</p><p>Her competitive journey began at the age of four, and she has since achieved an impressive list of accomplishments. During GSP Got Talent 2024, she won the district, area, and provincial championships. She then represented her school in the Bohol Association of Private Schools Elementary Administrators Singing Competition, where she bagged the provincial grand champion title in the Preschool Division before successfully defending her title as Pprovincial champion in the Primary Division in 2025.</p><p>Most recently, she was crowned grand champion of Alta Citta&#x27;s Kiddie Singing Star in Bohol, adding another achievement to her already impressive resume.</p><p>Beyond the competition stage, the young musician has amassed millions of followers online. In December 2025, her moving performance of &quot;Banal na Aso, Santong Kabayo&quot; (Janine Berdin&#x27;s version) went viral on social media. The video has since received over 14.1 million TikTok views and 1.6 million likes, with engagement steadily increasing.</p><div><br/></div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1783899445642image1 (4).jpeg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/></div><p>The performance received even more attention after being featured by content creator Nephi Acaling, whose Facebook post drew an additional 7.7 million viewers. Numerous influencers and online personalities quickly shared her performance, amazed that such a young child could have such a powerful, mature, and expressive voice.</p><p>Ironically, the viral video was never intended to garner public attention. Her mother had simply uploaded the clip to TikTok and applied video effects before saving it. With only a small following at the time, the family never imagined that the performance would reach millions of people around the world — a blessing they now credit to her God-given talent.</p><p>&quot;She gives me goosebumps whenever she sings,” her mother said.</p><p>Despite her growing popularity, she remains a modest, happy, and grounded child. A Grade 3 student at Child and Arts Academy, Inc., she balances academics and music while pursuing her passion with her family&#x27;s unwavering support.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1783899461841image2 (2).jpeg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/></div><p>She is the eldest of three children born to Jimmy Taghap and Diocelle Ocmeja Taghap, both public school teachers at Naatang Elementary School in Jagna, Bohol. Music runs deep in the family, as both her mother and grandmother were active singers when they were younger. She has also received vocal coaching from respected mentor Froilan Canlas, who has previously coached “Tawag ng Tanghalan” contestants.</p><p>As she continues to develop as a vocalist and musician, Taghap is committed to using her God-given talents to glorify God, inspire others, bring joy through music, and proudly represent Jagna, Bohol on stage.</p>
