Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA -- After spending several years pursuing opportunities in the United States, singer-actor Iñigo Pascual is marking his return to the Philippine music scene with his new single, “Ikaw at Ikaw.”During his guest appearance on “Oh My Gan!,” Pascual said the song reflects his journey of repeatedly leaving and returning to the Philippines, which he still considers home.“I wanted to write something that kind of spoke about me coming back to the Philippines,” Pascual said.While “Ikaw at Ikaw” may be interpreted as a romantic track, the singer explained that it also serves as a love letter to his family, friends, supporters and loyal fan base.“Kahit ilang beses man akong umalis or ilang beses akong pumunta ng America, I wanted to write a song that says, ‘Ikaw at ikaw ang babalik-balikan ko, uuwi’t uuwian ko,’” he shared.Pascual said he did not have one particular person in mind while writing the song.“More so, I wanted to say it to my loved ones, my fans. It’s kind of like my love letter to them. Even if I go away for so many years, every time I come back here, they’re there to support me,” he said.<div><iframe width="960" height="540" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hAL1AgpNjh4?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></div>The singer admitted that he initially struggled to write songs for his upcoming album. After listening to compositions submitted by other songwriters, however, he suddenly found inspiration and was able to create several new tracks.“Pagkatapos ko mapakinggan yung mga songs, bigla akong na-inspire. Ang dami kong nasulat bigla,” he said.Pascual described “Ikaw at Ikaw” as a return to the sound that launched his career, particularly the upbeat and heartfelt style of his 2016 hit “Dahil Sa ’Yo.”“It really feels like this album, bumabalik ako sa sound ko noong nagsisimula ako. It sounds like ‘Dahil Sa ’Yo.’ It has the same heart, the same beat. Masasabi kong it feels like me,” he said.Although he acknowledged that there is pressure to release another song as successful as “Dahil Sa ’Yo,” Pascual said he has learned not to measure the value of his music solely through commercial success.“When ‘Dahil Sa ’Yo’ boomed, I would get affected every time my song would not hit or would not become a hit. But eventually, over time, sabi ko, the fact that whenever I get to see my catalog of songs and see how many songs I’ve already released, that to me is enough,” he said.Pascual also revealed that he regularly asks fellow artists and trusted friends for their opinions before releasing his music. His father, Piolo Pascual, as well as singers Darren Espanto, Yeng Constantino and KZ Tandingan were among the first to hear “Ikaw at Ikaw.”The singer is also hands-on in producing the track’s upcoming music video, which underwent additional filming and several rounds of editing.“Na-delay siya nang na-delay kasi pa-edit ako nang pa-edit,” Pascual admitted, adding that his perfectionist tendencies often come into play when handling creative projects.“‘Ikaw at Ikaw,’” written by Pascual, is now available on digital music platforms under Star Music.
