Dingdong and Patrick talk about how challenges made their bond unbreakable

Dingdong Bahan and Patrick Ramirez, collectively known as "DongPat," made history as the first LGBTQIA+ couple to become housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother.” Patrick shared that entering Bahay Ni Kuya was a great opportunity to represent those who see themselves in their journey. Carrying a powerful message of love and acceptance, all they sought was to be embraced for who they are and to live freely without judgment. For Dingdong, it was all about inspiring others.

During their BRGY interview with Bianca Gonzalez, they take a trip down memory lane, revealing the untold stories behind cherished old photos.

Dingdong reminisced about family trips to the park. For him, these moments taught him the enduring support of family. “They will always understand you because it’s family,” he said, adding that as he grew older and started working, he became more open with his parents, recognizing that they were evolving, too.

Patrick also shared the story behind a family photo taken during his younger brother’s birthday celebration. His father was working overseas as an OFW, so they weren’t always complete. Growing up, Patrick learned to make independent decisions while still valuing the guidance his family provided.

Next, Bianca showed a photo of Dingdong during a barangay event where he served as a judge. He shared how his passion for public service was sparked by watching “Y Speak,” a student-oriented program that aired on Studio 23 in 2004, with Bianca as one of its hosts. This inspired him to become an SK Chairman. However, he decided not to run for higher office at the time, fearing that his identity might stand in the way.

For Patrick, the next photo was from a friend’s debut during his college days. He recalled how his love for cooking led him to take up HRM, as it was the closest option to Culinary Arts given their limited budget. Despite the challenges, he pursued his passion for service and hospitality.

Bianca then showed a heart emoji on screen, leading the couple to talk about their first meeting. They met in a hotel in Parañaque after Patrick messaged Dingdong on April 1—a message that was no April Fools’ joke. They met five days later, with Patrick planning the meetup. Dingdong admitted he was late, joking, “Parang naisip ko, since siya naman ‘yong nag-invite eH ‘di siya ‘yong mag-antay for quite some time.” 

They clicked instantly, though their relationship faced hurdles, including a brief period when Dingdong ghosted Patrick as he figured things out. Despite this, they eventually became inseparable.

Dingdong also shared more about his career as a registered electrical engineer and an educator, which he finds fulfilling despite its challenges. Patrick, on the other hand, shared the story of his chicken wing business, which he started in college, inspired by his family's canteen. He’s been in the food industry for eight years, long before the pandemic hit.

Finally, Bianca showed a rainbow emoji, prompting a conversation about their journey inside the PBB house. "Hindi po siya maco-compare sa ibang happy moments po namin. Kasi po grabe din po talaga ‘yong pinagdaanan namin sa loob ng Bahay ni Kuya and ‘yong mga tasks na ibinigay sa amin na sinubok po talaga ‘yong relasyon po naming dalawa,” Patrick said. When their relationship was revealed, they felt free to be themselves. The support and appreciation from other housemates made the experience even more meaningful.

Bianca wrapped up by showing old social media posts and videos. DongPat realized how their love story had quietly unfolded online, built on trust, respect, and genuine care. Their differences complement each other—Dingdong’s structured approach balances Patrick’s intuitive and nurturing nature.

Now, as they pursue their careers, Dingdong and Patrick continue to inspire. Their story proves that love, mutual respect, and understanding can overcome any obstacle. What began as a simple connection has grown into a powerful partnership that resonates far beyond the walls of Bahay ni Kuya.
