RECAP: “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” ends with healing and happy days

<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1760721409644Its-Okay-to-Not-Be-Okay-ends-with-healing-and-happy-days.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>What a journey it has been for Patrick (Joshua Garcia), Mia (Anne Curtis), and Matmat (Carlo Aquino), the three broken souls who found healing in their dynamic as a family in &quot;<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/its-okay-to-not-be-okay" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u><em>It&#x27;s Okay to Not Be Okay</em></u></strong></a>.&quot; And the butterflies that once symbolized anxiety and trauma in the story are repainted in the finale as representations of resilience and rebirth, of how even the most fragile wings can learn to fly again. Here’s a recap of the emotional “<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/its-okay-to-not-be-okay" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u><em>It’s Okay to Not Be Okay</em></u></strong></a>” finale where the characters finally find their happy ending. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>The &#x27;Butterfly&#x27; Captured  </strong></div><p>The finale, Episode 65, picks up from Mia and Ingrid (Agot Isido)&#x27;s struggle on the staircase as Ingrid attempts to stab her daughter, furious that she can no longer manipulate her and that Mia chose to protect the Gonzales brothers. Their fight drags them dangerously close to the edge, leaving Mia trapped between the weapon in her mother’s hand and the risk of a fatal fall. At the last moment, Matmat wakes from sedation and hits Ingrid with a book, sending her collapsing down the stairs. </p><p>Before Ingrid is taken into the ambulance escorted by the police sent by Vincent (Enchong Dee) and Doc Anok (Bobot Mortiz), she receives a lecture from her former boss, who still can’t reconcile the nurse he knew with the monster she truly is. Doc Anok swears Ingrid will pay for all the lives she toyed with, to which she only responds with a manic laughter and says she wasn&#x27;t the only one who tried to kill their own child. It is revealed that, in earlier episodes, it was Ingrid who handed the knife to psychiatric patient Alex (Christian Vasquez) when he was on the verge of killing his own daughter out of a twisted belief that doing so would save her from a cruel world. And as Zelda (Ana Abad-Santos) also suspected, Ingrid was the one orchestrating the secret &#x27;deliveries&#x27; in OK Hospital, including the birthday card she ordered Zelda, through an anonymous note, to send to Mia on her birthday. </p><p>Doc Anok hopes Ingrid will learn the true meaning of love behind bars. Ingrid lets out a twisted laugh, saying that love, to her, means molding Mia to become the best version of herself, never realizing that her idea of perfection only destroyed her daughter.  </p><p>Back at the mansion, Patrick wakes up from the sedative Ingrid had injected him with and sees Mia waiting by his side. Wracked with guilt, Mia apologizes for dragging him into danger once again, but Patrick assures her it’s okay, that at least they found Ingrid and they faced her together. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Goodbye, Mama </strong></div><p>In the succeeding scene, Mia visits Ingrid in her cell to see her one last time, telling her she will pay for what she did to Samuel (Michael De Mesa) and Tessie (Meryll Soriano). The mere mention of these names makes Ingrid furious. Mia admits she hated butterflies because they reminded her of Ingrid (which explains why she loved hurting them and breaking their wings as a kid), but now realizes she shouldn’t because for others, they carry a deeper meaning. Butterflies may also symbolize healing. That’s why Mia brings Ingrid her own ‘butterfly,’ Vio (Raven Rigor), who still loves his “Mama” despite everything she has done. Those who have been with Mia from the start will feel proud watching her be brave enough now to face her mother and finally let her go.  </p><p>The finale also shows the lead trio visiting Tessie’s grave at the very spot where she lost her life. Matmat kneels by his mother’s resting place, holding the storybook he and Mia made together. Smiling through tears, he points to his name on the cover and says, &quot;Sana, Nanay, nandito ka para makita mo &#x27;yung gawa ni Matmat, para proud ka kay Matmat.&quot; With childlike cries, he places two photos atop the grave marker—one of their old family with Tessie and another of their new family with Mia, who promises to take care of the family she is now a part of. With Tessie’s death given justice, Patrick and Matmat can finally be at peace and healed. <strong></strong></p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Road (Trip) to Healing </strong></div><p>The scene cuts to OK Hospital, where Doc Anok surprises Matmat with a camper van he rented for a few days so he can go on a vacation with Patrick and Mia, as his gift of gratitude for the mural Matmat painted in the facility’s mess hall. Meanwhile, Nanay Li (Rio Locsin) also receives a surprise from her foster children—a copy of the book &quot;Nakita Mo Ba Ang Mukha Ko?&quot; with a note from Matmat, the book’s illustrator which reads, &quot;Nanay Li, ikaw ang pangalawang nanay nina Matmat at Patpat. Thank you po sa lahat.&quot; After all, the book wouldn’t have been possible without Nanay Li, who once helped Patrick understand why he needed to support Matmat’s dream of illustrating Mia’s storybook. Between happy tears, Nanay Li jokes that the three of them—Patrick, Matmat, and Mia—are her favorites among all her ‘anak-anakan.’  </p><p>Off they go on a joyful road trip with Satsat in tow. Their first stop is a beautiful beach where they take endless selfies under the sun. Matmat’s childlike heart beams with happiness—it’s truly a happy day. That night, Patrick and Mia share a sweet moment by the bonfire.  </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>My Turn to Be &#x27;Manong&#x27; </strong></div><p>When morning comes, Patrick finds Mia standing by the shore. He wraps his arms around her as she thanks him and Matmat for letting her join the trip. Patrick smiles and tells her she’ll always be with them wherever they go because they’re a family now. </p><p>As they head back to the van to tell Matmat to prepare for their next stop, they’re surprised to see him already holding his bag and ready to leave for his first day at work at Vincent&#x27;s publishing company as an official illustrator. Patrick insists they should all leave together, but Matmat smiles and says he’ll go alone since he’s the only one who has work that day. Vincent soon arrives to pick him up. Cue the sob fest as Matmat tearfully says goodbye to his younger brother and says it’s finally his turn to be the kuya. For once, he wants Patrick to take a break and just do what makes him happy.  </p><p>Matmat fixes the button on Patrick’s shirt and reassures him not to be sad because he can finally stand on his own, making a promise that he’ll be the one giving Patrick an allowance once he gets his first paycheck, like the responsible “manong” he wants to be. And though the scene is overflowing with tears, their hearts are happy and Patrick couldn’t be prouder of his brother. <strong></strong></p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Nakita Mo Ba Ang Mukha Ko?</strong> </div><p>The brothers’ lives take a new direction, yet their love stays constant. In the background, Mia’s narration of the latter part of the book “Nakita Mo Ba Ang Mukha Ko?” plays, chronicling the story of three individuals who once struggled to show their true emotions on their faces because of a witch&#x27;s curse but eventually learned to express what lies within their hearts. </p><p>Pero biglang nagpakita sa kanila ang masamang si Bruhanino. Sapilitan niyang kinuha si Boy Maskara pati na rin si Prinsesa Wapa. &quot;Kayong dalawa, hinding-hindi n&#x27;yo na mahahanap ang inyong masasayang mukha!&quot; Ikinulong ni Bruhanino sa madilim at maliit na kuweba sina Boy Maskara at Prinsesa Wapa. </p><p>Makaraan ang ilang araw, nakita ni Mamang Kahon ang kuweba pero hindi siya makapasok dahil maliit ang pasukan nito. &quot;Kailangan kong tanggalin ang kahon sa ulo ko para magkasya ako.&quot; Narinig ni Boy Maskara ang boses ni Mamang Kahon, &quot;Mamang Kahon, huwag mo kaming alalahanin. Tumakbo ka na. Mamaya ay darating na si Bruhanino.&quot; Pero tinapangan ni Mamang Kahon ang sarili niya para tanggalin ang kahon sa ulo. Pumasok siya sa loob ng lumang kuweba para iligtas si Boy Maskara at Prinsesa Wapa. </p><p>Pagkalabas sa maliit at madilim na kuweba, nakita ni Boy Maskara at Prinsesa Wapa ang napakadungis na mukha ni Mamang Kahon. Nagtawanan sila. &quot;Mamang Kahon, nakita ko na ang mukha mo,&quot; sagot ni Prinsesa Wapa. Pero hindi sila tumitigil sa pagtawa. Biglang nahulog ang maskara ni Boy Maskara. Nahulog din ang lata sa katawan ni Prinsesa Wapa, nag-ingay pa ito sa pagkakabagsak. </p><p>Wala na ang ulo sa kahon, nakita ni Mamang Kahon ang totoong mukha ni Boy Maskara at Prinsesa Wapa. &quot;Nakita ko na rin ang totoo n&#x27;yong mukha!&quot; Tumawa siya at sinabing, &quot;Masaya siya!&quot; Hindi pala ang totoong mukha ang ninakaw ni Bruhanino kina Mamang Kahon, Boy Maskara at Prinsesa Wapa. Katapangan na maghanap ng kaligayahan ang nawala sa kanila noon, na kanilang dala-dala na sa panibagong paglalakbay ngayon. </p><p>Just like Mamang Kahon, Boy Maskara, and Prinsesa Wapa, Patrick, Mia, and Matmat also find the courage to face what’s within, reminding us that real happiness begins when we dare to remove the masks we hide behind. <strong></strong></p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Happy Days </strong></div><p>Their lives move forward, with the brothers taking different paths but both strong enough to follow whatever brings them happiness. Patrick goes back to school to pursue a nursing degree. He’s shown walking out of the room after class as he talks over the phone with Matmat, who’s calling from the Vincent &amp; Co&#x27;s Publishing Company office, where he works as an illustrator. Matmat asks how he’s been and whether he received the allowance he sent. Patrick thanks him but says it’s unnecessary since he now works part-time at the university, to which Matmat replies, &quot;Huwag ka nang rumaket. Magpapadala naman si Manong para mabilis kang matapos at para maging nurse ka kagaad.&quot; Before hanging up, he reminds Patrick to tell Mia not to be too stubborn. </p><p>As for Mia, she agrees to take therapy sessions with Doc Anok. In the final minutes of the episode, she’s seen at OK Hospital as Doc Anok checks in on her progress and asks how she’s been managing her temper. Mia says she’s doing fine, except for one of Patrick’s classmates who keeps texting him, joking that she wants to kill this classmate. Doc Anok scolds her for the thought, and Mia laughs it off, saying that sometimes it’s okay to not be okay. She exits the facility feeling more at peace with herself.</p><p>The closing scene seemingly recreates a moment from their childhood as Patrick finds Mia alone on a hill. The flowers he picks are the perfect peace offering for Mia, who jestingly feels jealous of his female classmates. She gives in to his charm and accepts both the flowers and his invitation to a date, and requests her favorite tomatoes with salted egg. With the beautiful sunset as their backdrop, Patrick kisses Mia and confesses his love, but Mia walks away teasingly, making Patrick chase after her until she finally smiles and replies, “I love you, too, my safety pin.”</p><p>As the credits roll, our hearts warm seeing these characters finally find the peace they’ve long searched for. It’s the happy ending they all deserve as they had to fight for every step of the way just to earn that happiness—and healing. </p>
