Throwback: Photos of Julia Montes with her “Doble Kara”

Stories of siblings being separated at birth or in their childhood due to various circumstances are indeed common among Filipinos. Thus, being reflections of reality, these kinds of narratives have inspired several teleseryes, such as the ABS-CBN Studios afternoon soap opera “Doble Kara”.Broadcast from August 24, 2015 to February 10, 2017 as part of the Kapamilya Gold afternoon block, and was comprised of six seasons, it is considered one of the long-running series of ABS-CBN in recent history. It stars Julia Montes in her first dual role as identical twins Kara Dela Rosa and Sara Suarez, who grew up together in a poor yet happy family. It was until their parents, Laura (Mylene Dizon) and Ishmael (Ariel Rivera), had to give Kara up for adoption in order for her to get the best medical care for her leukemia, which they couldn’t afford.However, Kara’s adoptive father, Antonio Dela Rosa (Allen Dizon), was actually no stranger to their family since he is actually her and Sara’s biological dad. Antonio’s wife, Lucille (Carmina Villaroel), was oblivious of his real connection with their adopted child, so she welcomed and loved her with all her heart. Even though she was brought by her adoptive parents to the US for her treatment and provided her with a comfortable life, Kara had never forgotten her real family and longed to reunite with them. Thus, when they returned to the Philippines 14 years later, Kara came back to her hometown and searched for her family to reconnect with them, which Antonio strongly objected to. But fate had its way of intertwining the paths of the twins and of the two families, as there were several situations when Lucille and Antonio mistook Sara for Kara, as the latter was unaware that his daughter with Laura actually had a twin sister.The truth about the twins’ parentage was revealed in Season 2, in which the rivalry between Kara and Sara sparked as they fought for their rights as legal children of Antonio. While Kara was content with everything she had in life then, it was totally a different story for Sara, who desired luxurious properties and convinced their father to buy her a house of her own to make up for all those years that she lived through misery. Despite Sara’s evil intentions and unpleasant disposition, Kara’s unconditional love for her remained as she continued to heed her wishes.In Season 3, Sara’s materialistic and scheming personality backfired at her, as Lucille exacted vengeance against her for what she had done to their family, with the help of her half-sister, Alex (Maxene Magalona). While Lucille and Alex quite succeeded in their plan against her, Sara totally failed with her plan of seducing Kara’s soon-to-be-husband then, Seb (Sam Milby), out of envy, as he was faithful to Kara.Sara then had the opportunity to start her life anew in Japan with the help of a friend in Season 4. Originally, she went there to find Edward (Edgar Allan Guzman), the father of her unborn child at the time. However, his mother, Chloe (Patricia Javier), led her astray and forced Edward to migrate to South Korea, believing that Sara would only bring trouble and pain to her beloved son. Thus, Sara simply decided to work there until she welcomed her daughter, whom she named Rebecca. Sadly, the baby girl died shortly after her birth, which prompted Sara to go back to the Philippines, but not to her family since she didn’t want to be a burden to them and be judged by them anew because of her wrong decisions in life. As if it was a twist of fate, Sara had unknowingly taken good care of Kara’s abducted newborn daughter, Isabella, after she found it by surprise in front of her house. She named the infant Rebecca in honor of her late daughter and had adored her as if she was her own child. Although Kara and Seb didn’t lose hope in finding their daughter after several years, they decided to adopt a little girl, whom they named Hannah (Myel de Leon).With their paths intertwining again in Season 5, the twins found out that Rebecca (Krystal Mejes) was actually the daughter Kara had been searching for after being kidnapped several years ago. Believing that she had indeed abducted Isabella, Sara got imprisoned and was pleaded guilty for kidnapping until she was able to escape and prove herself innocent with the help of her friends who testified in favor of her. Sara was able to mend her relationship with Kara, and the Suarez family lived a happy and peaceful life together. But unbeknownst to them, Alex and Lucille were actually not done yet with their revenge schemes against them, so the events in Season 6 were more of the half-sisters doing everything that they could to ruin the bond of the Suarezes, most especially of Sara and Kara—from kidnapping Kara and Becca to attempting to kill the other members of the Suarez family. But in the end, it was forgiveness, love, and family that still prevailed, with Lucille apologizing to Seb and Kara for the evil things she had done against them when they came to the mental hospital to visit her. They told her to just leave everything in the past and focus on getting better because she had a family waiting for her. Alex died as she refused to surrender to the police and even tried to fire her gun at them. It was not only Kara who had a happy love life by the end of the story, but also Sara who finally got engaged to Edward. The twins got pregnant again at the same time, and the series ended with them, and the people closest to them celebrating together during their joint baby shower. “Doble Kara” can be considered one of the most memorable teleseryes not only because it aired for almost two years, but it was also through this series that Julia Montes was able to prove that she could already pull off mother roles. This also marks the beginning of her reign as the “Daytime Drama Queen.”Besides, it was also where talented child star-turned-promising young actress Krystal Mejes—who’s now one of the housemates in the ongoing “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0”—launched her acting career. Thus, avid Kapamilya fans, especially those who got to witness her grow in front of the camera over the years, couldn’t help but gush about the fact that she’s already a teenager, more so part of the 20-year-old reality show.Myel de Leon, meanwhile, seemed to have shy away from the spotlight following her stints in the 2019 fantasy drama series “Starla” and 2020 thriller drama series “24/7.”<div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JLuqSvltGk&amp;list=PLPcB0_P-Zlj4PvWrBeWTHD2GZ79G-39bN" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Watch “Doble Kara” on ABS-CBN Entertainment YouTube</a></div>
