The Padillas in action: How Lara, Emil, and Ahmad raise the stakes of loyalty and conflict in “Blood vs Duty”

<p>In every episode, “<a href="http://bloodvsduty.abs-cbn.com"><strong><u>Blood vs Duty</u></strong></a>” remains deeply committed to delivering its message about taking action against deep-rooted corruption and dismantling cultural stereotypes toward Muslim culture. The series’ characters also undeniably strengthen these themes as they each fight for their truths, most notably in the powerful performances by the acclaimed Padillas. </p><p>Years after the Padilla clan starred in the 2014 action-drama film “Sa Ngalan ng Ama, Ina at mga Anak,” Bela Padilla, Rommel Padilla, and Robin Padilla currently engage in the harrowing ordeals existing in “<a href="http://bloodvsduty.abs-cbn.com"><strong><u>Blood vs Duty</u></strong></a>.”  </p><p>The three Padillas each impressively portray their strong-willed characters—Lara Angeles, Director Emil Azuelo, and Ahmad Mustapha—leading their stories, which are driven by vengeance, stability, and, finally, justice.  </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Bela Padilla embodies the fearless agent Lara Angeles </strong></div><div><br/></div><div><iframe width="913" height="543" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qQBikH0FRx0" title="Lara initiates an operation to find Jalil | Blood vs Duty" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Naturally capturing viewers’ admiration, Bela effortlessly portrays the sharp intellect and clearly defined skills of Lara Angeles, the supervising agent of the Special Investigations Division: Task Force Alpha. Aside from guiding her team through strategic efforts in their high-risk missions, Lara is also fearless in joining the battlefield, as previously shown during the successful pursuit of Peklat, the leader of a gun-trafficking group operating in a fish port. </p><p>Bela also conveys Lara’s convincing softheartedness, which first establishes her as a trustworthy colleague for Marcus (played by Richard Gutierrez), especially during their efforts to dismantle rampant gun-smuggling syndicates in the Philippines. Lara even fought to protect the endangered members of Task Force Alpha during their tragic Zamboanga mission and repeatedly defended Marcus against Director Emil Azuelo (played by Rommel Padilla), who appeared indifferent to the deaths of his men and frequently criticized Marcus’ actions. </p><p>Doubts soon begin to surround her when Marcus discovers a GPS tracker on his vehicle, cleverly planted by Lara herself, which explains how she was able to quickly catch up with him at the Dapayan Warehouse in search of the abducted Datu Rahman (played by Jaime Fabregas). </p><p>Behind her tough exterior, Lara is actually burdened by the traumatic grief of her parents’ murder when she was younger. At present, her persistent interference in Marcus’ investigations reveals her long-buried resentment toward Datu Rahman, whom she believes to be the mastermind behind her parents’ deaths. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Rommel Padilla as the critical Director Emil Azuelo </strong></div><div><br/></div><div><iframe width="913" height="543" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/C-XAjS3EdlA" title="Emil suspends Marcus | Blood vs Duty" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Earning both amusement and eye-rolls from audiences is Rommel’s immersive portrayal of Emil Azuelo, the director of the Special Investigations Division, who is initially viewed as a cold-hearted superior to his personnel, most notably Marcus. </p><p>He often clashes with Lara over their conflicting principles, particularly during Task Force Alpha’s life-threatening Zamboanga mission, where he dismisses Lara’s desperate request for backup to save their agents. Likewise, Marcus frequently confronts Director Azuelo’s questionable decisions but is consistently dismissed. </p><p>Director Azuelo has been adamant about Marcus’ alleged incompetence ever since the failed Zamboanga mission. He later makes several troubling decisions, including suspending Marcus due to his unauthorized interrogation of the arrested Datu Rahman and misleading the public about the truth behind the Datu’s unexpected abduction. </p><p>Behind his strict facade, the director is deeply affected by criticism, as he believes it could jeopardize his long-awaited retirement, which he hopes will finally provide his family with a safe and secure life. </p><p>Eventually convinced by Lara’s suggestion to reinstate Marcus and seemingly moved by Marcus’ altruism, Director Azuelo gives Marcus a chance to prove his claims of an internal breach and corruption within NLEA and the Special Investigations Division, both of which continue to threaten the lives of innocents. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Robin Padilla brings to life the mighty Ahmad Mustapha </strong></div><div><br/></div><div><iframe width="913" height="543" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KO6FBJD3cKk" title="Ahmad entrusts Jalil with a new mission as Allan Espina | Blood vs Duty" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Returning to his roots as one of the most iconic action stars in the Philippines, Robin Padilla readily embraces the powerful role of Ahmad Mustapha, a veteran Muslim leader. In addition to fulfilling his duties as chief of staff and lead strategist for the president, Ahmad often resolves national crises in his own way and behind closed doors. </p><p>During Jalil’s (Gerald Anderson) violent abduction by Datu Rahman’s captors, Ahmad’s soldiers intervene to rescue him.
