<p>As the so-called &quot;<em>haligi ng tahanan</em>&quot; (or &quot;pillar of the family&quot;), fathers are traditionally expected to be their children&#x27;s strongest allies, unwavering sources of support, and steadfast refuge. But for Sam (Julia Montes), this kind of relationship with her father, Ricardo (Edu Manzano), has been a distant reality, for he has grown increasingly detached and indifferent toward her, as seen in the scenes they&#x27;ve shared together in &quot;<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/sigabo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u><em>Coco Martin&#x27;s Sigabo</em></u></strong></a>.&quot;</p><p>It was revealed that this painful dynamic began after her one and only brother, RJ (Alex Castro), tragically died after being shot by an unidentified assailant while he and Sam were together. The gap between them has only grown wider, especially now that Sam firmly stands her ground and fights for what she believes is right, often resulting in heated confrontations between them.</p><p>And avid viewers of “<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/sigabo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u><em>Coco Martin’s Sigabo</em></u></strong></a>” have surely noticed these painful moments between Sam and Ricardo, as seen in the five scenes featured in this Friday 5 edition! </p><p>While we may have sensed Ricardo’s indifference toward Sam earlier in the series and initially mistaken it for his simply being a nonchalant man—especially considering his background as a former NLEA general—it has become increasingly apparent in their more recent encounters. </p><p>Their first major confrontation came when Ricardo and Isobel (Carmi Martin) informed their remaining children, Sam and Max (Arci Muñoz), that they had already purchased the land where Barangay Ginintuang Lupa stands. Concerned about the families who would be displaced once development began, Sam voiced her objections. But her sister and mother insisted that it was no longer their concern because the property already belonged to their family. </p><p>Ricardo echoed their sentiments, arguing that the residents had already benefited from the land throughout their many years of living there. Now that they were its new owners, he believed it was time for their family to use the property according to their plans—and made it clear that his decision was final. </p><p>Rather than appreciate Sam’s decision to immediately return home after learning that he and Isobel had gotten into a confrontation with the people of Ginintuang Lupa during their visit with a potential investor, Ricardo became angry with his daughter. The two once again had a heated argument when Sam questioned why they had gone there despite her warning and suggested that they postpone the demolition. He was enraged, telling her that he would not allow anyone to dictate what he should do, most especially her. </p><p>Later that day, the father and daughter found themselves in another intense quarrel after hearing about the bloody demolition in Ginintuang Lupa. Sam insisted that the demolition should not have been carried out hastily and that they should have shown compassion toward the residents who were about to lose their homes. This further infuriated Ricardo, who hurled insults at the very people she was trying to defend, calling them “salot ng lipunan” or a “menace to society.” He even told Sam that it would be better for her to keep quiet if she did not know enough about the situation. </p><p>Just when Isobel thought Ricardo would be proud of Sam, much like she way was when she learned that her daughter would lead the team handling the high-profile gold-smuggling case, he once again showed little enthusiasm. Instead, he dismissed the assignment as a trivial matter that was not worth dwelling on, calling it merely an ordinary day at the office. He even stopped Isobel from boosting Sam’s confidence, pointing out that she had yet to prove herself. </p><p>When Sam and her team successfully arrested gold-smuggling syndicate leader Victor “Tigre” Zafra (JM de Guzman) during their thrilling operation, she may have hoped that the accomplishment would finally earn even a little of her father’s approval. But once again, Ricardo found fault with how they carried out the mission, making it seem as though he was criticizing rather than celebrating her achievement. This sparked yet another heated argument between them, with Sam openly expressing her disappointment over her father’s reaction. Max, meanwhile, reprimanded her and advised her to listen to Ricardo. </p><p>Despite everything Sam has done to earn her father’s approval, Ricardo continues to keep her at an emotional distance. Will there still be a chance for the father and daughter to heal their fractured relationship and rekindle their familial bond? Or will their differences only drive them further apart?
