Richard recreates iconic Papa Chen and Ser Chief teleserye moments with Melai on “Kuan on One"

<p>Do the character names “Papa Chen” and “Ser Chief” sound familiar? Those are just two of the iconic roles Richard Yap brought to life, making hearts swoon through the years with his hit teleseryes. From family dramas to romantic storylines that defined an era of primetime TV, his portrayals have left a lasting mark on Kapamilya viewers. </p><p>Beyond reminiscing about his childhood years in Cebu, his heartfelt romance with wife Melody, and his unexpected rise to stardom, Richard also looked back on some of his beloved characters during the “Lights, Camera, Kuan” challenge in the “Dakong Problema” portion of “Kuan On One” with Kuantie Melai Cantiveros-Francisco. </p><p>In this acting showdown, Melai and Richard recreated some of his most memorable teleserye scenes—complete with props and nostalgic lines that brought his onscreen performances back to life, even if only for a brief moment. </p><p>Spoofing “My Binondo Girl” as “My Kuan Girl,” Richard reprised his role as Chen Sy, Jade’s (Kim Chiu) strict Chinese father who once tried to put her up for adoption. In their first acting sequence, Melai and Richard tackled the scene where Jade disguised herself as Yuan and introduced “himself” to Papa Chen as his son for the very first time.</p><div><br/></div><div><iframe width="916" height="543" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iOBZ72t2Crs" title="RICHARD YAP: “Actually nagbuwag jud mi.” | KUAN ON ONE S5 EP 12" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Playing her role as “Kuan,” Melai nailed Yuan’s boyish look with a cropped wig and mustache. She delivered the line, “Ako si Kuan, your only son,” even dropping her voice to a manly tone to fully commit to the character. </p><p>And just when we thought the fun was over, Melai transformed into Maya from “<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/bcwmh/articles-photos/throwback-be-careful-with-my-heart-2012-14521" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u>Be Careful With My Heart,</u></strong></a>” the serye that kept viewers hooked with the kilig-filled pairing of Richard Yap and Jodi Sta. Maria. In the show, Richard portrayed Richard Lim, a businessman who hired Maya to look after his youngest daughter—only to eventually fall in love with her. </p><p>Wearing a pink maid headdress, Melai stepped into Maya’s shoes and reenacted the monologue where she confessed her admiration for Ser Chief while speaking to herself. Unbeknownst to Maya, Richard’s character overheard everything, believing she was simply lost in a daydream.  </p><p>True to her comedic flair, Melai brought plenty of laughs to the scene as she blurted out, “Tama ka, crush talaga kita!” while Richard watched in amusement.
