<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2016/entertainment2/05/09/050916-goma.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">Richard Gomez is proclaimed as the mayor of Ormoc, Leyte. <em>Jenette Fariola-Ruedas, ABS-CBN News</em></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>Actor-politician Richard Gomez was proclaimed mayor of Ormoc City in Leyte by the board of canvassers after he defeated Liberal Party candidate Ondo Codilla.</p><p>The 50-year-old Gomez ran under the Nationalist People&#x27;s Coalition.</p><p>Gomez won the mayoralty race with 53,234 votes against Codilla&#x27;s 44,453, according to data transmitted by the Commission on Elections.</p><p>This is Gomez&#x27;s first win in several tries for an elective post.</p><p>Party-list group Mamamayan Ayaw sa Droga (MAD), which named him as a nominee, was disqualified by the Supreme Court in 2001.</p><p>In 2007, he ran for senator but lost.
