MANILA (UPDATED) - United Nationalist Alliance standard-bearer Vice President Jejomar Binay is urging voters to respect the outcome of the elections once the electoral process is completed.

Hours after polls closed Monday, Binay held a press conference in Mandaluyong, where he urged everyone to accept the results of the elections.

"I have repeatedly called for respecting institutions and the democratic process. Once the process is completed, we should always respect the outcome," Binay said.

"We should all move towards healing and unity for our divided land," he added.

Video also showed Binay and his fraternity brothers singing together.

The vice president refused to entertain questions during the press conference.

Early Monday morning, Binay faced members of the media and told them that he would maintain a political record unblemished by any loss.

"Ganoon ang track record ko kaya ganoon din matatapos," Binay said, referring to his numerous victories as mayor of Makati City.

By Tuesday morning, Binay was at fourth place in the five-way presidential race, garnering 5,022,443 as of 8:29 a.m.

PDP Laban standard-bearer Rodrigo Duterte was leading the presidential race with 15,118,220 votes.

Binay was an early favorite in the presidential race. An erstwhile frontrunner, he slipped in poll surveys as allegations of corruption hounded him and his family and several political clans dropped him in favor of Duterte or Senator Grace Poe.
