MANILA -- The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) announced Friday that this year's Pasinaya festival, originally scheduled on February 7 to 9 at various CCP venues, will not push through.

"Mindful of public health and safety, the CCP regretfully cancels the Pasinaya Multi-Arts Festival 2020 Edition. However, all other regular CCP programs like rehearsals and events will continue, as scheduled. Please stay safe and well. We can only hope that this health crisis ends soon. Thank you," Ariel Yonzon, deputy festival director of Pasinaya, said in his official Facebook account.

In a follow-up advisory released by the CCP public relations office, the CCP said the decision was made "in response to the current outbreak of the novel coronavirus and health officials have advised people to avoid crowds."

"For the past 15 years, the CCP Open House Festival has been drawing thousands of spectators who can see-all-they-want for a suggested minimum donation of P50. Last year, more than 16,000 people participated in the country's biggest multi-arts festival," it added.

Pasinaya was conceptualized by Chris Millado, CCP vice president and artistic director, in 2004. He also served as festival director for the past 15 years.

In the same statement, Millado said: "As the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus as a public health emergency of international concern, we urge the Filipino people not to panic and remain calm.
