PH’s 'Big 3' in world university subject rankings

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2017/news/02/01/020117_admu.jpg"/></figure></div><p>MANILA – The latest world university subject rankings are out.</p><p>Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines (UP) and De La Salle University – dubbed as the country’s “Big 3” schools – made their mark in various subjects as shown in the 2017 World University Rankings by Subject by UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds.</p><p>Ateneo ranked 284th in Arts and Humanities, while UP and La Salle were at the 293rd spot and the 401-450 bracket, respectively.</p><p>In Social Sciences and Management, UP was at No. 274, followed by Ateneo at 387th place and La Salle in the 401-450 bracket.</p><p>Only UP made the cut in Engineering and Technology and Life Sciences and Medicine, placing in the 401-450 bracket in both subject areas.</p><p>Here are the rankings of the “Big 3” schools in specific subjects:</p><div><strong>AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY</strong></div><p>- UP (101-150)</p><div><strong>ARCHAEOLOGY</strong></div><p>- UP (101-150)</p><div><strong>ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE</strong></div><p>- La Salle (151-200)<br/>- UP (151-200)<br/>- Ateneo (201-250)</p><div><strong>ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE</strong></div><p>- UP (251-300)</p><div><strong>LINGUISTICS</strong></div><p>- La Salle (151-200)</p><div><strong>MEDICINE</strong></div><p>- UP (351-400)</p><div><strong>MODERN LANGUAGES</strong></div><p>- UP (151-200)</p><div><strong>SOCIOLOGY</strong></div><p>- UP (201-250)<br/>- Ateneo (251-300)</p><p>The 2017 QS World University Rankings by Subject covered 46 subjects and is based on global surveys of academics and employers as well as research impact.</p><p>Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology – both in the United States – dominated this year’s rankings, topping 15 and 12 subjects, respectively.</p>
