Luna's 'Death of Cleopatra' boceto sold for more than P9M

<div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/salcedoauctions/photos/a.248028985224206/2683672658326481/?type=3&amp;theater" data-width="auto"> </div><p>MANILA – Juan Luna y Novicio’s Boceto for “Death of Cleopatra” sold for P9,344,000 (total purchase price, inclusive of buyer’s premium and VAT) at Saturday&#x27;s Important Philippine Art auction of Salcedo Auction.</p><p>Based on its size of just 10 x 15 inches, it is the highest price for a Luna in history, the Salcedo Auction <a href="https://www.facebook.com/salcedoauctions/photos/a.248028985224206/2683672658326481/?type=3&amp;theater">announced</a>.</p><p>It said the art work comes in at P62,293 per square inch versus “España y Filipinas” which only sold at P51,171.20 per square inch.</p><ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/life/03/09/19/lunas-death-of-cleopatra-boceto-hidalgos-draped-nude-up-for-auction">Luna&#x27;s &#x27;Death of Cleopatra&#x27; boceto, Hidalgo&#x27;s &#x27;Draped Nude&#x27; up for auction</a></li></ul><p>“Death of Cleopatra” is a celebrated artwork of Luna that won him his first international accolade, and is displayed at the Museo del Prado in Madrid. </p><p>The important Philippine art sale, which is a Makati-based Salcedo Auction, also put on the auction block works of famous contemporary artists including Ronald Ventura, Manuel Ocampo, Maria Taniguchi, as well as emerging talents and many more artists. </p><p>It was held on Saturday followed by jewelry and timepieces auction on March 10. </p>
