MANILA -- Google celebrates one of the Philippines&#x27; most prominent writers with a special doodle depicting Francisco Balagtas&#x27; most famous work.Born on April 2, 1788, this year marks the 230th birth anniversary of one of the country&#x27;s most revered writers.The doodle depicts &quot;Florante at Laura,&quot; an epic poem symbolizing Balagtas&#x27; own journey.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2018/tvpatrol/04/01/image.png"/></figure></div>The epic poem is written in dodecasyllabic quatrains, which means it has 12 syllables per line, and 4 lines per stanza. &quot;Florante at Laura&quot; was written in Tagalog at a time when most writings were in Spanish.Aside from being a well-known poet, Balagtas is also known for writing for a Filipino audience, using Filipino themes.Centuries after it was written, &quot;Florante at Laura&quot; remains one of the most important pieces of Philippine literature, taught to students all over the country.
