The COVID-19 frontliners as the modern Filipino fighters.

It's a reimagining of health workers, police, and other frontliners in the fight against COVID-19 as the new Katipuneros.

All of them are covered with facemasks, with a doctor leading the charge against the unseen enemy.

This drawing by Justine Cabingas, inspired by the rendering of Andres Bonifacio in National Artist Carlos "Botong" Francisco's mural "The Filipino Struggles Through History" is one of their Grade 9 class's drawn and written tributes to what many have dubbed the country's modern heroes.

The students from Batangas National High School, all stuck at home during the quarantine, took photos of these letters and cards to send to their teacher Janet Lucerna Luneta, who posted them on Facebook.

The tributes include messages of thanks and support as well as prayers for the protection of the frontliners.

They took the form of folded cards, bond paper, yellow pad sheets, and even notebook pages.

Student Allysa Catapang wrote in one: "You're not wearing capes but you are all hero[es] that can also save lives of many. I really hope that the virus would be gone soon so that you can all rest."

Many students drew in images of people in scrubs and uniforms to accompany their messages.

Sherwin Cuasay's letter read: "Stay strong & be courageous, because there are family waiting & praying outside the hospital for you."

Others like Irah Cataquiz composed poems as a tribute.

Hers ended: "Balang araw masusuklian lahat ng inyong pagod, puyat, at takot dahil sa COVID-19."
