For me, she is the most gorgeous girl in the world. I did not expect her to win but, of course, we hoped. She actually did it. Unbelievable. Great night,” he said.</p><p>Her mother Annie, on the other hand, shared that Peters never actually showed any interest in joining beauty pageants when she was growing up. </p><p>“She wasn’t even girly. It’s probably me because I never really dressed her with frills and flowers and ribbons. When she was growing up, they were always very sporty. She’s always with her brother. She never really dreamed to be a beauty queen I think,” she said.</p><p>In fact, Peters only learned how to walk in heels two years ago. </p><p>According to Peters, she only realized that she wanted to become a beauty queen when she went back to the Philippines after obtaining her double degree in college in Australia.</p><p>“After I graduated, parang I wasn’t sure exactly what I was going to do. My mom, one of her best friends is related to Rogil Flores who is the head of Kagandahang Flroes. They introduced me and they said I should try Miss World. I joined and I was a little bit disappointed with the results and I was put off by the Q&amp;A like I was so scared to join another pageant,” she said.</p><p>“Two years later, a lot of people were messaging me and I thought, if I don’t do it now, I might regret it someday. I’m so glad that I didn’t let the opportunity pass before it was too late. We are here now,” she added.</p><p>When she joined Binibining Pilipinas, Peters said she had really set her eyes on winning the Miss Universe Philippines crown.</p><p>Asked what was the first thing that came into her mind when her name was announced as the winner, the beauty queen from Camarines Sur said: “My hands were sweating. It was one of the scariest moments of my life. When they called me, it was like a huge weight lifted off my shoulder -- to know that all the hard work, the tears and the blood that I’ve shed for this, it all paid off.”</p><p>Just like the previous representatives of the country to the Miss Universe, Peters vowed to do her best to give pride and honor for the Philippines.</p><p>“I’m representing the Philippines and that’s a huge honor. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would have this opportunity. Following Pia (Wurtzbach) and Maxine (Medina), it’s a lot of pressure for me. I want to make the Philippines proud of course. I want this. I’m going to win,” she declared.</p>
