MANILA -- Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan launched on Saturday the first book he authored.

“Tagsibol” features his journey into farming which began when he chaired the Senate committee on food and agriculture back in 2010.

“Tungkulin nating lahat na ibahagi sa susunod na henerasyon ng mga Pilipino ang kahalagahan ng mga magsasaka at ng pagsasaka, sa buhay natin bilang isang tao at bilang isang taumbayan. And as the next generation of Filipino tell their own farming stories today, we are helping make sure that happens,” he said.

Pangilinan said the book is his “humble contribution in helping bring that message that we must put more value to our farmers, put more value and appreciation for agriculture, and have a healthy respect for them.”

Aside from advocating it himself, Pangilinan said he is grateful that his daughters, nephews and nieces have also developed a deeper appreciation for farmers as well.

For instance, his eldest daughter Frankie said her father’s passion inspired her since she grew up seeing how he works toward bettering the lives of farmers.

Pangilinan’s other daughter Miel thanked her father for enlightening her about the real importance of farming.

“Thank you, you changed our view of life, of what farming is, and the lives of farmers. You made us have more respect for what they do for the entire community,” she said.

Meanwhile, Sharon Cuneta stressed her husband’s passion for agriculture is “not something that is ornamental to us.”

“He actually has acquired so much knowledge about agriculture because he is truly passionate about it,” she said before kidding that Pangilinan sometimes pays more attention to his crops than her.

“Tagsibol” will be available in bookstores nationwide starting May 20.
