George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA – When it rains, it pours.This is especially true for Bea Patricia Magtanong, who had not one but two exhilarating developments in her life in the recent weeks.Last May 3, Magtanong passed the 2018 Bar exams, making her one of the 1,800 fortunate examinees who is set to take the lawyer’s oath on Thursday.Then on early Monday, she was crowned the 2019 Binibining Pilipinas International, who will represent the country in the Miss International stage.In case there are people wondering how she was able to achieve both, Magtanong said studying law and competing in a pageant are “in some way very similar.”“It’s very hard and it’s mentally exhausting and physically taxing,” she told ABS-CBN News in an interview after the coronation.However, Magtanong also noted striking differences, especially as to how she approached law school and pageantry.“In law school, you study and you get good grades. Here, we all know there’s so much more. It has so many factors. You have to think about what you say, how you look, how you stand, how you dress,” she said.Describing the beauty competition as “confusing,” Magtanong admitted it was easier for her to adjust to law school than to pageantry.”In her Binibining Pilipinas profile, Magtanong is described as an advocate of the rights of prisoners, maintaining that they have the right to humane treatment.The 24-year-old Bataan beauty grew up idolizing her father who is a lawyer and that pushed her to finish her law degree at the University of the Philippines.In the question and answer portion of the pageant, Magtanong was asked to name a globally influential person that she would like to meet and why.“I really idolize Angelina Jolie because she was blessed with such a thriving career in Hollywood, but as a woman, she was able to use that influence, that voice and that audience to advocate for the causes that she believes in like world hunger with the UN. Someday, if I’ll be given the chance, I would like to be just like her,” she answered.
