New film retells story of 104-year-old migrant

<p>MANILA -- In a generation where moviegoers are obsessed with romantic comedy, science fiction and apocalyptic stories, first-time filmmaker Sunshine Lichauco de Leon chose to deviate from the bandwagon by retelling the story of her 104-year-old grandmother.</p><p>&quot;Curiosity, Adventure, and Love&quot; features the story of Jessie Lichauco or Tita Jessie -- an American woman who journeyed thousands of miles to marry a man she barely knew. </p><p>De Leon said curiosity, adventure, and love lead her grandmother&#x27;s quest for fulfillment -- thus, the title of the film. </p><p>&quot;Everything she has done is inspired by those three words,&quot; de Leon told ABS-CBN News in an interview. </p><p>Tita Jessie, who was 18 when she arrived in the country, witnessed how Filipinos fought for their independence during the World War II. In the film, she gives a first-hand account of how a nation reconstructed itself from havoc. </p><figure class="op-social"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/NBZTuUanoTc?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0" width="510"></iframe></figure><p>According to de Leon, the film also aims to remind the present generation that beyond technology, there is a life worth living. </p><p>&quot;Sometimes, in the chaos of our busy lives, we&#x27;re just using too much technology and computers; it&#x27;s easy to be distanced from things; it&#x27;s easy to be busy to do something, to take the time. And it reminds us that you&#x27;re not too busy, to look someone in the eye and say, &quot;Are you okay?
