Empire.ph" src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2021/life/09/23/20210923-luzon-representatives-in-miss-universe-philippines-empire-ph.jpg"/><figcaption>The Luzon representatives in Miss Universe Philippines pose together for the national costume show. <em>Empire.ph</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA — (UPDATED) Miss Universe Philippines candidates showcased on Thursday a colorful, modern take on the pre-war Manila Carnival, through the pageant’s national costume show.</p><p>Released as a music video, with the new BGYO track “Kulay,” the show saw the 28 candidates taking turns to display craftsmanship inspired by the theme, “Manila Carnival Queen.”</p><p>The candidates were divided into four groups: National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.</p><p>Aside from the candidates’ names and areas they represent, the names of the costumes&#x27; designers were also shown for each turn.</p><p>“For the National Costume presentation, we wanted a fresher and younger vibe by doing a fashion music video,” Voltair Tayag, the pageant’s director of communications, told ABS-CBN News.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><iframe height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/j5Hjd4VXwGs?enablejsapi=1" width="560"></iframe></figure><div class="iwantbar">Watch more in <a href="//www.iwantv.com.ph/">iWantv</a> or <a href="//tfc.tv/">TFC.tv</a></div><p>“We featured modernized forms of the Manila Carnival Queen theme that all the ladies were required to have,” he said.</p><p>“Having a mix of old traditions presented in a new way makes for a more interesting experience. You can watch it repeatedly like a music fashion video.”</p><p>The national costume show is one of three major preliminary activities leading up to coronation day.</p><p>The preliminary interviews will be held on September 24, while the swimsuit and evening gown competition is scheduled on September 26.</p><p>The re-scheduled coronation date has yet to be announced.</p><p>Rabiya Mateo, who placed in the top 21 of the 2020 Miss Universe pageant, will crown her successor.<br/> </p>
