A Filipina mother of three was crowned as the first winner of Mrs. Universe New Zealand 2019 in Auckland on September 21, 2019.&quot;Thank you for the support. This crown is actually not for me but for the community, for the Filipino and I hope I can make you all proud,&quot; said Carmela Laylo in a video message after the coronation.Aside from bringing home the crown, Laylo also won the best in sports attire, best in swimsuit attire, best evening gown, and Mrs. Community Service Award.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/life/10/01/20191001-carmela-laylo-1.jpg?ext=.jpg"/><figcaption>Carmela Laylo</figcaption></figure></div>But being the first winner of the pageant hasn&#x27;t really sunk in yet.&quot;A childhood dream which I thought was impossible to achieve at the age of 40 and with 3 kids,&quot; she said.Laylo thanked her supportive family, friends, and community who &quot;walked with her on my journey.&quot; Prior to joining the pageant, Laylo had been active in several social, cultural and spiritual gatherings.&quot;I always wanted to serve other people and this is a bigger platform for me, to put my passion into action,&quot; she said.The Calapan City native has been living in Palmerston North, New Zealand with her family for seven years now.Anna Marie Boado Parrant, owner and national director of Mrs. Universe New Zealand, said the inaugural pageant had 12 finalists with four ladies of Filipino descent namely Aileen Dela Rosa, Christine Alcoseba and Jennet delas Penas-Dizon.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/life/10/01/20191001-mrs-universe-new-zealand-1.jpg?ext=.jpg?ext=.jpg"/><figcaption>Christine Alcoseba, Jennet delas Penas-Dizon, and Aileen Dela Rosa</figcaption></figure></div>Parrant added, the finalists were judged by five celebrities and businesswomen in New Zealand.She said Laylo is now preparing to compete in a bigger stage, the Mrs. Universe 2019, to be held in Guangzhou, China in December.Parrant said they support Laylo and would make sure that she gets more involved in the New Zealand community.&quot;So when she goes overseas for the Mrs. Universe pageant, she will be an excellent Beauty Queen Ambassador of New Zealand,&quot; she said. She added that Laylo will get catwalk training and would be wearing the best outfits for the competition. &quot;Her community in Palmerston North, including their Mayor, is also very supportive in helping her with the preparations,&quot; she said.This year&#x27;s advocacy was to raise awareness on family violence.The top 6 winners of the pageant are:- Carmela Laylo (Mrs. Universe New Zealand 2019) - Tejal Tailor (Mrs. Woman of the Universe New Zealand 2019) - Kristine Snore (Mrs. Universe New Zealand 2019 First Runner-Up) - Jennet de Las Peñas (Mrs. Universe New Zealand 2019 Second Runner-Up) - Preet Sands (Mrs. Photogenic, Mrs. Universe New Zealand 2019 &amp; Kiwi Queen) - Aileen Dela Rosa (Mrs. Flawless Skin, Mrs. Universe New Zealand 2019 and Best in Domestic Violence Video)
