Metrowear 2017: The spell of Michael Leyva's gowns

As the lights gently brighten to start Michael Leyva's show, the background visuals cast a soft movement against the stage; a dark fabric rippling against the wall, shining behind his name.

The stage effects are obviously a thematic prop, yet it does represent his aesthetic: clothes that simply exude a sense of mystery.

Perhaps his adeptness as a bridal designer played a part in his evening wear collections as well. His gowns often feature weighty, voluminous skirts, but also a shroud of lightness and movement. It's like a bride in her wedding gown and veil—which, not surprisingly, was the finale of the collection.

In rich, jewel tones of ruby red, emerald green, and sapphire blue, Michael's dresses captured a sort of moody romance, fitting for a night as grand and mesmerizing as Metrowear 2017.
