A regional airline has launched a new route that connects Ilocos Norte and the northernmost Philippine island of Batanes.

Sky Pasada started bringing passengers from Laoag International Airport to Basco in Batanes last May 4, with flights scheduled every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

The 15-seater airline, dubbed "jeepney in the sky," aims to connect travelers to off-the-beaten-path destinations in northern Luzon provinces.

"By launching the Ilocos Norte-Batanes route, we aim to provide our customers with a more efficient and enjoyable travel experience while supporting local economies," Benedictine Barraquias, Sky Pasada's vice president for operation and accountable manager, said in a statement.

Barraquias also shared plans for other routes, saying: "Magkakaroon tayo ng sea plane na magko-connect ng Hundred Islands and sa iba pang sea ports natin. Additionally, we plan to establish a Laoag-Calayan route. Although we cannot commit to a specific timeline, our goal is to establish one station per year."
