MANILA (UPDATED) — Alvin Elchico officially joined ABS-CBN flagship newscast "TV Patrol" as an anchor on Monday.

He replaced veteran TV anchor Henry Omaga-Diaz, who is starting a new chapter of his life abroad.

Elchico was included in the OBB of "TV Patrol" after bidding farewell to the weekend newscast.

At the end of the newscast Monday, guest Jose Mari Chan also joined the other anchors Karen Davila, Noli de Castro, and Bernadette Sembrano-Aguinaldo in officially welcoming Elchico in the weekday team.

Sembrano-Aguinaldo felt like Chan's guesting was really meant to welcome Elchico.

"Para talaga sa 'yo 'to," she said in jest.

Prior to joining the weekday newscasts of TV Patrol, Elchico was the anchor of TV Patrol Weekend for 13 years while also concurrently covering the energy and consumer beat.

He began his career in ABS-CBN as a field reporter, eventually becoming the anchor of TV Patrol Bacolod. Upon his move to Manila, he worked in DZMM before becoming one of ABS-CBN News' TV field reporters.
