Greg Boyle and Integra Wellness Center founder Elaine Kahn. <em>Handout.</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA – American priest and United States Medal of Freedom awardee Greg Boyle said he was &quot;deeply impressed&quot; by the Philippines&#x27; nature of love and compassion during his inaugural visit to the country.</p><p>While delivering a talk in partnership with Ateneo De Manila University about transformative power of kinship, he highlighted that the culture of care and mutual support in Filipino communities are &quot;transformative forces&quot; or &quot;superpower&quot; that could bring a positive change not only to the nation—but also to the world.</p><p>&quot;Filipinos&#x27; ability to care deeply for one another is a powerful force that, if harnessed and shared globally, could help us create a better world,&quot; Boyle said.</p><p>Integra Wellness Center founder Elaine Kahn brought Boyle to the country after seeing how his empowering approach helped individuals as the founder of the Homeboy Industries, the world&#x27;s largest gang-intervention program.</p><div><strong>Healing through love</strong> </div><p>Boyle emphasized that love and compassion will help mankind understand that &quot;people are not problems to fix but persons to love&quot;—underscoring a mindset that one can correct others through acceptance and unconditional love.</p><p>&quot;When people get stuck, the only thing that helps is love. Love is the thing that will constantly ventilate the place where people are stuck,&quot; he added, pointing how such a strong bond enables progress in holistic healing spaces like the Integra Wellness Center.</p><p>He also shared that it&#x27;s a necessity to see people without moral judgment and recognize the inherent kindness of everybody.</p><div><strong>&#x27;Healthier&#x27; perspective on rehabilitation</strong></div><p>He is advocating for a change on how society sees rehabilitation, especially involving those who suffer from addiction or were convicted of crimes. Boyle stressed that healing and transformation must be integrated on the core of dealing with these people.</p><p>Additionally, he mentioned how penal systems should lean more to healing than punishments. He related such philosophy to how Homeboy Industries viewed and treated gang members as people capable of change rather than subjects of suppression.</p><p>&quot;Just as we view patients in hospitals without moral judgment, we should approach those in prisons with the same mindset—acknowledging their need for healing,&quot; Boyle said.</p><div><br/></div><div><br/></div><div><br/></div>
