HandoutMANILA — GMG Productions announced Saturday that a special sign language-interpreted performance of the Tony Award-winning musical “Come From Away” will be held on June 27 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater. in Circuit Makati.

The initiative, done in partnership with the Benilde Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf and the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies - Interpreting Education Program (SDEAS-IEP), aims to make the production accessible to the Deaf community.

The show will be interpreted live in Filipino Sign Language (FSL), allowing Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members to fully experience the emotion and storytelling of the musical.

“At GMG Productions, we believe that theater should be for everyone,” said Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions. “We’re committed to building a more inclusive audience by creating opportunities for people of all abilities to experience the magic of live performance.”

A designated section in the orchestra seating area has been reserved for Deaf patrons and their companions, ensuring optimal sightlines to the FSL interpreters. These seats can be accessed using the promo code ACCESS-SEATS, which provides a 20% discount. An additional Persons with Disabilities (PWD) discount is available at TicketWorld outlets for patrons with a valid PWD ID.

The production, which runs until June 29, tells the true story of 7,000 airline passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks. As fear spread globally, the residents of Gander welcomed the passengers with open arms, offering food, shelter, and compassion.
