Support our own: Ice Seguerra on why Filipino musicals like 'Walang Aray' matter

MANILA -- OPM singer-songwriter Ice Seguerra expressed his happiness joining the rerun of the award-winning comedy musical "Walang Aray."

In a video released by Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), Seguerra shared the importance of supporting original Filipino musicals like "Walang Aray."

"The theater scene is thriving right now talaga and I'm very happy. But I think it's very important for people to see this and experience 'Walang Aray' because I love original musicals," sai Seguerra, who plays the loyal and playful Lucas in the upcoming show.

"It's very important na while we may have these other kinds of musicals, importante na makita natin 'yung sariling gawa talaga natin. And, nakakatuwa kasi base siya sa sarsuela. Ang nakakatuwa roon ay kung paano nila minodernize to cater to the new generation. Kasi naniniwala ako kahit anumang art form 'yan  it's important na mailapit sa audience 'yon. Kasi hindi naman porke nagdaan na 'yung ganoong klase ng art form, entertainment ika nga, ay hindi na natin tinatangkilik," he added.

Describing "Walang Aray" as "a sarsuela with a twist," he believes a lot of the  younger audiences can relate to it

Seguerra as well as Jolina Magdangal are joining the cast of "Walang Aray," which is set to return from August 29 to October 12, 2025, at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City.

Tickets for the show will be available starting June 28 via ticket2me.net.

"Walang Aray" is returning after it had two runs in just one year due to insistent public demand. The original run starred Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada in the lead.
