13 missing community cats raise concern in Pasig City condominium

<p><u></u>MANILA -- A puzzling disappearance is unfolding in Satori Residences as a total of 13 community cats have gone missing from the condominium complex.</p><p>The incident raised concern in January this year, when the volunteer group Cats of Satori noticed the disappearance of three community cats. More recently, in June, nine additional cats have gone missing.</p><p>“We’re reaching out to everyone to help us find our missing community cats. They may be hiding due to the rainy season, but they’ve never gone missing this long before, even during heavy rains,” the group writes on Facebook.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fphoto.php%3Ffbid%3D122157543596481450%26set%3Da.122103450470481450%26type%3D3&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="827" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>The volunteer group grew very concerned when the nine cats, all of whom have been spayed or neutered and vaccinated, were unusually absent for more than 24 hours, as they usually appear during feeding times.</p><p>Despite checking local city pounds in Pasig and Marikina, along with other locations from public tips, these nine cats, along with the three from January, have not been found more than two weeks after the recent disappearances.</p><p>Satori Residences is a condominium complex in Pasig City owned by DMCI Homes. According to Cats of Satori on Facebook, since January they have sought for help from the management but often to no avail.</p><p>Left with limited options, they can only inform the community of what’s happening and hope for their kindness to prompt action.</p><p>The group expressed their distress over the multiple incidents of missing community cats, citing earlier cases of catnapping and animal cruelty.</p><p>On January 12 of this year, the group announced on Facebook that community cats Pia, Abner, and Darcy went missing. A few days later, on January 17, they received information on the whereabouts of Abner and Darcy, claiming that some residents have seen them in a village in Pasig, suffering from multiple wounds. In November last year, another community cat named Carrot went missing and has yet to be found.</p><p>Now, with the disappearance of nine more cats this June — including FC — the total number of missing community cats from Satori Residences has reached 13, the group announced on Facebook.</p><p>This incident has garnered the attention of concerned netizens and other volunteer groups on the social media site.</p><p>One such group that has spoken up in support of Cats of Satori is the volunteer group Cats of Kai Garden Residences, a community initiative of fellow cat lovers in another condominium complex in Mandaluyong also owned by DMCI Homes.</p><p>“No animal deserves this. We echo the call for justice and accountability. Our community cats are not pests, they are lives that matter too. We continue to stand with Cats of Satori and other fellow volunteers,” the group wrote on Facebook.</p><p>The issue has resurfaced a Facebook post from February, when DMCI Homes reportedly imposed a “zero stray cat policy” on the condominium complex.</p><p>According to Cats of Kai Garden Residences, “The Property Management Office (PMO) has recently announced a decision by the Board of Trustees (BOT) to remove all community cats from Kai Garden Residences (KGR), regardless of their neutered, spayed, or vaccinated status.”</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fphoto.php%3Ffbid%3D122198168786238896%26set%3Da.122116365932238896%26type%3D3&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="767" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Meanwhile, at Satori Residences, the PMO had also instructed the volunteer group to remove all feeding stations for the cats.</p><p>As the disappearances grow more alarming and the cause remains unknown, Cats of Satori is seeking help from the community through various initiatives.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FCatsOfSatori%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0ZYJZLdqx8cZfHphFmG1bUZTkSb6oL2ZeGMRGRuAZpcprjyvnxv2R6Me5naP2XnDml&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=500" width="500" height="498" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Concerned netizens and members of the community can sign a <a href="https://form.jotform.com/251669546618470"><strong>petition</strong></a> calling for accountability from the PMO, raise awareness by sharing the story of the missing cats, or adopt or foster one of the remaining cats.</p><p>Republic Act No. 10631, an act amending certain sections of Republic Act No. 8485, also known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, imposes stricter penalties for animal cruelty, including higher fines and longer imprisonment for offenders.</p><p>Senator Grace Poe, who pushed for a revised Animal Welfare Act, <a href="https://web.senate.gov.ph/press_release/2025/0627_poe1.asp"><strong>expressed</strong></a> in a recent media statement her call towards the barangay officials to intervene in the search and identify those responsible for the cats’ vanishing.</p><p>“The promotion of animal welfare and the culture of care and concern for them is a shared responsibility,” she stated.</p><p>The cats of Satori Residences, and many other community cats, aren&#x27;t just &quot;stray&quot; animals, but valued members of the community whose lives matter. As the community rallies for justice and accountability for the missing cats, there is still hope for a harmonious coexistence between residents and their furry companions.</p>
