MANILA -- For Arielle Jacobs, sharing the stage with Broadway icon Lea Salonga in the upcoming Philippine staging of "Into the Woods" is more than a career milestone — it’s a full-circle moment.

“I grew up listening to her,” the Fil-Am theater star said, still starstruck as rehearsals begin for the Stephen Sondheim musical opening August 7 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati.

While she has worked with Salonga before in the Broadway musical "Here Lies Love," Jacobs said hearing the Tony Award winner sing next to her as The Witch just feels surreal.

"She and I have met before, but getting to hear her as The Witch, singing Sondheim right next to me?" she said in an interview on "Headstart" on Friday.

According to Jacobs, just hearing Salonga perform is already a huge learning experience for her: "I'm like trying to absorb as much as I can, learn as much as I can. Because there's so much technique, but also the storytelling."

"It's just incredible. It's so good," she added.

Jacobs plays the role of Cinderella in the Philippine staging of "Into the Woods," joining other Filipino stars like Salonga, Eugene Domingo, Josh dela Cruz, Mark Bautista, and Nyoy Volante, to name a few.

The Fil-Am Broadway star is filled with excitement as she continues to rehearse in Manila to make sure they deliver one unforgettable show after another.

"I've always wanted to be here performing, and be back sharing what I do with the Filipino people," she said. "Doing that here is really special."

The musical's executive producer, Chris Mohnani, for his part said they are happy that local audiences embraced their efforts to bring Filipino talents to one stage.

"We've always wanted to champion the global Filipino artists, and this was the perfect opportunity to do it. To have all of them be on one stage and for all the Filipinos to get to experience them is fantastic," he said.
