The immersive setup is designed to place audiences at the center of the action and enhance storytelling on screen.With the addition of SCREENX, SM Cinema said it continues to expand its premium offerings for Filipino moviegoers. The Mall of Asia, the country’s largest shopping mall and one of Southeast Asia’s most visited destinations, was chosen as the venue for the country’s first SCREENX auditorium.“Launching SCREENX in the Philippines with SM Cinema — the country’s No. 1 exhibitor — is a major milestone in our mission to innovate cinematic storytelling,” CJ 4DPLEX CEO Jun Bang said. Don Savant, the company’s chief business officer, added that the new format will give Filipino audiences “a bold new way to experience film.”SM Supermalls president Steven T. Tan said the project underscores SM Cinema’s commitment to introducing new technology and entertainment formats. “At SM Cinema, we continue to push the boundaries of entertainment by introducing world-class innovations that elevate the moviegoing experience for our customers,” he said.CJ 4DPLEX, based in Seoul with offices in Los Angeles and Beijing, has developed several next-generation cinema formats, including SCREENX and 4DX. SCREENX is now available in more than 435 auditoriums across 40 countries, while its 4DX format, which incorporates motion-based seating and sensory effects such as wind, water, and scents, operates in more than 70 countries.SM Cinema remains the largest film exhibitor in the Philippines, with more than 300 screens across 78 branches. The addition of SCREENX expands its premium lineup, which already includes IMAX, Director’s Club, and Event Cinema.
