<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1779361624927388f320b-1328-45bf-891c-21fc40ebe8f9.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/></div><p>MANILA — ABS-CBN News’ flood control documentary was named as a finalist at the 2026 New York Festivals TV &amp; Film Awards for Best Documentary in the Current Affairs category.</p><p>The recognition was announced in a virtual “Storytellers Gala” on Thursday, May 21. </p><p>The New York Festivals TV &amp; Film Awards honors the best of television and film from over 50 countries.</p><p>Produced by ABS-CBN News Documentaries, “Lubog sa Katiwalian” (Drowning in a Sea of Corruption) is a 2025 documentary that looks into the anomalies and controversies in the country’s flood control projects, and reveals how the system is rigged to favor several contractors from a project’s inception and how lawmakers gain from fraudulent practices. </p><p>The investigative feature takes viewers to different communities across the country that continue to struggle with perennial flooding — even during fair weather and with flood control projects supposedly in place.</p><p>The documentary is written and directed by journalists Raphael Bosano, Katrina Domingo and Andrea Taguines, edited by Armand Sol and Alan Cablao and produced by Dianne RJ Obdin, Cara Mae Bilangel, Bill Barrinuevo, Jerico Guardiano, JC Gonzalez, Chi Almario, Paul Espiritu, Jess Fenol and Jeff Canoy. Research was provided by Alyssa Carmina Gonzales, Pauline Mei Hiwatig, Jay-Ar Gallos, Rowena Caronan and the ABS-CBN Research and Verification Unit.</p><p>When the project made it to the festival’s shortlist last March, ABS-CBN News Chief Francis Toral highlighted the message of the documentary.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/CTz8aDj5HNQ?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></div><p>“&#x27;Lubog sa Katiwalian&#x27; is a first-hand deep dive and exposé into the corruption that plagues the country amid the flood control controversy. But beyond that, it also shows that meaningful change can happen in cities where government officials, the private sector, and the people work hand in hand to improve the system and make it work,” Toral said.</p><p>In 2025, ABS-CBN’s returned to documentary production after a four-year hiatus with “BINI Chapter 1: Born to Win”. The documentary was also named finalist at the festival for Best Documentary in the Biography and Profiles category.</p><p>Previously, ABS-CBN News nabbed multiple wins in the festival including the Bronze World Medal for Best Public Affairs program for &quot;KBYN: Kaagapay ng Bayan,&quot; Bronze World Medal for Best Documentary for “#NoFilter: Tao Po”, Gold World Medal for Marawi documentary “Di Ka Pasisiil”, and Silver World Medal for modern slavery documentary “Fedelina: A Stolen Life”, among others.</p><div><em>“Lubog sa Katiwalian” is currently streaming on the ABS-CBN News Youtube channel and iWant.</em><em></em><br/></div>
