Handout</div>&quot;The country&#x27;s first Charity Bone Marrow Transplant Wing stands as a promise that every Filipino child deserves access to life-saving care, regardless of their family&#x27;s financial circumstances,&quot; said IWTS founder and chairwoman Sheila B. Romero during the program. &quot;It is a promise that hope should never depend on one&#x27;s ability to pay.&quot;The ceremony included the blessing of the facility, the unveiling of a commemorative marker, and a guided tour of the new unit. The project was also supported by several partners, including Genteelhome, which donated the furnishings, and architect Dan Lichauco, who designed the facility.The new transplant unit builds on IWTS&#x27;s continuing partnership with PGH. In 2024, the foundation renovated an eight-bed immunocompromised pediatric ward, while its Childhood Cancer Helpline has trained barangay healthcare workers and physicians in Laguna, Cavite, and Bohol, with Cebu set to follow, to strengthen early detection and improve access to treatment.Since its founding, IWTS says it has supported more than 4,500 children and their families throughout their cancer journey and has celebrated 1,650 children completing chemotherapy over the past 11 years.The foundation also plans to inaugurate an Adult Leukemia Ward at the PGH Cancer Institute in the coming months. It is likewise preparing for the second Run to Share this November, where every race registration will fund one blood bag for pediatric cancer patients requiring life-saving blood transfusions.IWTS is also renovating a four-storey palliative care facility and halfway house targeted to open by 2027, providing long-term support for patients and their families.
