<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1785816752204Apple Pay.png" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/></div>MANILA — Apple Pay has expanded its contactless payment service to the Philippines, enabling local iPhone and Apple Watch users to complete tap-to-pay transactions as financial institutions roll out card support across the country. The rollout aligns with features outlined on Apple&#x27;s localized web portal, which highlights the platform&#x27;s broader ecosystem for consolidating payment cards, digital boarding passes, loyalty credentials, venue tickets, and smart keys into a single digital application. Local cardholders have reported successful activations inside the iOS Wallet app, completing card setup through issuer verification steps via SMS or phone call. Initial support includes debit and credit cards issued by UnionBank, Metrobank, Chinabank, and digital bank GoTyme. Some consumers have also reported successful point-of-sale transactions at major dining and retail chains, including Starbucks and 7-Eleven, using payment terminals equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. While Apple has yet to officially update its global support directory to list the Philippines among supported Asia-Pacific markets, local card issuers have already begun enabling backend integration for users. Apple notes on its platform that transaction data remains encrypted on-device and authenticated via Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode. Payment credentials and dynamic security codes are not stored on Apple servers or shared directly with merchants during transactions. The arrival of Apple Pay follows the launch of Google Wallet and Google Pay in the Philippines in late 2025, marking a broader expansion of NFC-based tap-to-pay infrastructure alongside established local digital wallets and QR-based payment networks.
