InterContinental returns: IHG brings world’s first and largest luxury hotel brand back to Manila

Handout</div>MANILA — IHG Hotels &amp; Resorts is bringing back the InterContinental Hotels &amp; Resorts brand to the Philippine capital with the planned opening of InterContinental Manila in Bonifacio Global City.The company announced Monday it has signed an agreement to develop the 212-room luxury hotel, scheduled to open in 2032, marking the brand’s return to Manila more than 15 years after the closure of the former InterContinental Manila in 2015.IHG said the property will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a signature specialty restaurant and bar, meeting and event spaces including a ballroom and function rooms, as well as wellness facilities such as a health club, spa and outdoor swimming pool.“Reintroducing InterContinental to Manila is a wonderful milestone and a perfect fit for the city with strong long-term fundamentals and increasing demand for luxury travel,” said Vivek Bhalla, managing director for Southeast Asia and Korea at IHG.The InterContinental brand first opened in Makati in 1969 and operated for 46 years before closing in 2015.IHG is developing the hotel in partnership with Keyland Corporation, Philippine Realty and Holdings Corporation and Greenhills Properties Inc..Keyland president Jose Ma. Montinola said the partnership marks a new chapter for the company as it expands further into the hospitality sector.“Partnering with IHG to bring a globally recognized and well-loved brand such as InterContinental to Manila is an exciting new chapter for our partnership,” Montinola said. “We are immensely proud to build on the brand’s storied legacy in Manila and to play an integral role in its return to the capital, delivering a stand-out hotel that honours its past while setting a new benchmark for luxury stays in the city.”Once completed, InterContinental Manila will join more than 240 InterContinental hotels and resorts worldwide, with over 100 additional properties currently in development.The brand, which is marking its 80th anniversary this year, is considered one of the world’s largest luxury hotel brands.
