Cebu Mangoes Festival highlights food, culture in Mactan

<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1779164871637Banner Poster.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/></div>The Mactan Newtown will hold the Cebu Mangoes Festival 2026 from May 22 to 31, highlighting Cebu’s famed mangoes through food events, cultural activities and community-centered celebrations.Organized in partnership with the Department of Tourism and the Lapu-Lapu City government, the festival will officially open on May 22 at the Mactan Newtown Road 4 Event Grounds with performances, cultural showcases and interactive activities.One of the festival’s main attractions is the “Great Mango Harvest” on May 24, inspired by traditional mango-picking activities during harvest season. Participants may join by spending at least P2,000 at participating establishments in The Mactan Newtown and presenting single or accumulated receipts dated May 4 to 22 at the festival promo booth in Mactan Alfresco.Qualified participants will be given the chance to harvest fresh mangoes and take home those picked within the allotted time.The festival will also stage a Culinary Showdown on May 28 featuring students from five Cebu schools and universities. Participants will prepare dishes using mangoes as a key ingredient.Guest chefs include Pao Aviso of Mercure Hotel and Coke Semblante of Savoy Hotel.Other activities include the Pawty Run on May 23, Cebu Mangoes Festival Queen on May 24, Mango Tree Planting on May 27 and the Spicy Dried Mango Eating Battle on May 29.A month-long food festival running until May 31 will also feature mango-inspired dishes, desserts and beverages.Organizers said the event also aims to promote sustainability through its mango tree-planting activity and encourage appreciation for Cebu’s local produce and food traditions.
