For most, it became a space where stories of hope, survival, and identity found a way to be seen and not forgotten.In the Philippine setting, art has carried the spirit of resistance against colonizers, helped Filipino people stand against the reign of dictatorship, and continues to serve as a platform to denounce oppression and injustice. This is the movement that Brigiding aspires to emphasize in her latest fashion film, “Kapangyarihan ng Kalayaan.”Fresh from being crowned as the first-ever winner of “Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale,” Brigiding released a two-minute fashion film featuring her “Yellow, yellow, yellow” runway look worn during the competition’s grand finale.The film opens with a striking image: Brigiding elevated at the center, positioned above a group of dancers, motionless in a tableau. Her radiant yellow ball gown glows against the dimmed atmosphere of the feature. The scene holds, sacred and suspended, until the silence is gradually broken as Ben&amp;Ben and SB19’s “Kapangyarihan” swells in the background.More than a showcase of style, Brigiding’s fashion film stands as a tribute to the courageous defiance of the Filipino people in 1986, unarmed but unafraid to speak out against a dictator. This also reflects what a collective action can achieve.“Every beat, every brush stroke, every performance is an act of defiance and self-expression, a reminder that our voices, our colors, and our truth can never be silenced, “ she wrote in a social media post.Bringing the message through motion, Brigiding was joined by dance royalties from the Legendary Houses of Mizrahi and Marciano, with the choreography developed in collaboration with Dan Cabrera and Canter Alcantara. Members of the House of Ding, Bomba and Zymba, were also featured as they take on a bold and hopeful declaration of &quot;freedom, inclusivity, and unstoppable force of creative expression.&quot;Coming back to the global stage, Brigiding vowed to make her return the brightest one. On October 15, she claimed the inaugural crown of &quot;Slaysian Royale&quot; after a stellar performance throughout the season and beating her fellow Divine Divas sister, Viñas DeLuxe, in the lip-sync for the crown.For the coming years, she hopes to push the boundaries of drag, especially, with how the Filipinos see drag in general. She wants to use this platform to also advocate for gender equality and for future generations to be inspired with the beauty and power of drag.  Drag as an act of cultural resistance is not new. The root of this platform has a rich thread with queer liberation movements around the world—from Stonewall riots in New York to local pride marches in the Philippines.The surge of popularity for shows like “Drag Race Philippines” and “Drag Den with Manila Luzon” has elevated the local drag scene into mainstream consciousness. Aside from undeniable entertainment, they have given performers the opportunity to speak their truth. Many queens have discussed the lack of legal protections for LGBTQIA+ community, the call to pass the SOGIESC Equality Bill, and the rampant cases of discrimination and violence against queer individuals.Drag thrives in these tensions, and it will continue to strut across different marches to prove that in its very essence, drag is political.“As artists, we hold the power to remember, to rise and to reclaim,” Brigiding stressed. “Art is an expression — and it can be a form of protest.
